Run away from the car and don't look back. From the info we see the seller knows perfectly well the history and has deliberately concealed it in the ad and his conversations with you.

Another thing I got a kick out of...

That's the lowest score I've EVER seen. Not only would I run away, but the guy selling the car should be hauled up on fraud charges.

Oh okay, that's what I thought. In that case I think you should try to negotiate because your car is probably worth more than 25k with the mods you've done. See if he'll do it for your car +10k or, if he'll take the car +15 with stock wheels/other parts.

This particular NSX (no matter how pretty it is now) is not even worth an even trade for the modded BRZ. OP would lose his shirt if he traded.

Still a $20 to $30K car I would think but I personally would avoid it like the plague. May have been able to accept it at a lower price if the seller had been up front but in light of what has been found out I have to wonder what else is being hidden.

I'd honestly confront the guy and ask him why he's even passing off a salvage titled car as a clean title. I'd also report the asshat to Craigslist and get that listing removed.

Perhaps he got that $40K price from repair costs, painting costs, new engine costs, etc, in the same way some people price their modded Twins based on the value of mods.

I'd still love to see how he would react to a super lowball offer though.
