passenger side air bag weight sensor

Does anyone know how to fix the passenger side airbag weight sensor so that you can place items in the seat. The thing is way to sensitive, ill put a water bottle or my cell phone on the seat and the dame thing will start dinging for the person to put there seat belt on. I sometimes just do up the seat belt but it looks stupid as hell.

Storage space in the car is already tight so being able to place things on the passenger seat would be nice.

Thanks,

You can't. It isn't a weight sensor it s a capacitance sensor. Anything with electronic signal or moisture will set it off regardless of weight. Don't put that stiff on the seat or just keep doing up the belt like you are.

The Carista App can turn it off.

There's actually OBD2 devices that can turn off the chime. That's what I had done to mine. Airbag still functions the same, but no more chime.

Ill go to a pull a part and cut off a passenger side seat belt buckle to stick in my passenger side seat belt. It will keep the stupid thing happy and i wont have the belt stretched across the seat.

Would that cause the airbag to deploy in an accident? Not that it probably matters...

Leave a cardboard box in the passenger seat to put stuff in?

Maybe a 1" thick piece of foam in a black pillowcase?

It would but like you implied if you are in an accident bad enough to deploy the passenger airbags then they are the least of your worries.

Or spend a few bucks for Carista and a cable to turn it off.

Huum, i hadn't though about that. You make a valid point good sir, but if you get rowdy enough to set airbags off i guess you wouldn't really give a shit?

Is there a way to manually turn off the airbag, some cars you can do that for child seats or what not.

I just checked Carista on amazon. Can you confirm that it works on the 2016 scion frs. It looks like a good solution to my passenger seat issue.

Thanks

Exactly, it could mean the difference in your car being totaled in a "minor" front end collision that caused the airbags to go off.

But...if I get hit hard enough for the airbags to go off I'd just as soon have the totaled.

I have not used it myself but there are loads of guys that have. Works with all the pre 17s for sure.

Do you have to use a cable with it, or can you just plug it in under the dash?
