Post UEL header question (Still a noob)

Okay guys be cool, before someone chews my head off for not searching the forums... I did, I could not find my answer so I decided to make a post.

I have a question about UEL headers, I would like to install Borla UEL headers without purchasing an OFT or ECUtek ecu... at first (Mainly because I cannot afford both at the same time) what are the most likely out comes of me driving with UEL headers without a tune or stand alone?

Engine damage?
Fuel economy?
Air to fuel mixture?
Check engine light?
Bad smell?

The only issue is you will throw a CEL and not be using the full potential of the header. Mine was catless and I am using a tune but I didn't notice any smell difference.
Gas MPG did go down a little but I am also mashing the gas pedal more since it woke the car up with the header /tune.

I'd get the OFT/Ecutek before getting the header if you just want to spend money right now. Then when it's time to spend more money, you tune it for the new header.

Engine damage? NO
Fuel economy? NO
Air to fuel mixture? NO as long as installed correctly with new gaskets
Check engine light? YES and cruise control wont work
Bad smell?

But as above you might be better getting OFT first it comes with tune for stock cars and also cars with headers el/uel.

If your going Ecutek then get header first else you will pay for two tunes.

If you rearly want to get header first get one of these 02 spacers, it will reduce likehood of CEL , put it in REAR 02 sensor bung then put rear o2 sensor into spacer.

but maybe read the Basic Bolt on Mods Guide here before you do anything. see coloured link below.

I ran tomei UEL headers, tomei over pipe, invidia catless resonated front pipe a full catless cutback for a few weeks without a tune and it ran fine, just threw a cel. I eventually just got and oft though. oft, headers and a full exhaust really woke the car up. I didn't realize how much it really changed the way the car drove for the better till i drove it like that for a long time and then returned the car back to stock and drove it for a few weeks before turning it in.

Since you're a noob... can you afford engine repairs if a dealer gives you crap?

If not, you should consider why you want to get headers without a tune first. Otherwise it's just a bunch of money for maybe 5RWHP.
