Official: New Alpine A110

Quote:
Thanks to a cryptic teaser image posted on Twitter, we know that the relaunched Alpine brand will indeed unveil its brand new sports car on February 16, ahead of a likely public debut at the Geneva Motor Show. This image comes a month after a short video teaser of the car was released

The teaser image depicts the peak of a snow-covered mountain overlaid with '16.02.16', the vehicle's debut date. While the picture doesn't actually show the new sports car, all reports point towards it being dubbed the A120 and looking very similar to last year's Alpine Celebration Concept.

Apparently, the sports car will come standard with a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine available in a range of guises. It's suggested that this powertrain will be based on the 1.6-liter unit of the Renault Clio RS and in base spec, deliver around 250 hp. For customers looking for more performance, a 300 hp variant is on the cards. Both models will have rear-wheel drive as standard as well as a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

To ensure the model weighs as little as possible, aluminum has been used throughout its construction resulting in a 1,100 kg kerb (2,425 lbs) weight.

With the Alfa Romeo 4C and Porsche Cayman in its sights, the sports car market is about to get even more exciting.

Alpine Celebration Concept Fires Up Its Engine At Goodwood

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6_qafsR4EY[/ame]

Quote:
Unveiled at Le Mans and later showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Alpine Celebration concept offers a pretty good idea of what we should expect from the production car scheduled for 2016.

We knew the retro-styled coupe had an engine in it ever since we saw it lap the Circuit de la Sarthe before the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but this is the first time we actually get to hear the sound it makes.

It’s not particularly impressive, but then again, the car was just being moved at a very low speed around the Goodwood estate, so unfortunately we can’t hear high-rpm sounds.

The type of engine Renault will fit on the production Alpine car is unknown, but what’s certain is it will be a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive sports car. Rumor has it the production model will get at least 250 horsepower and will be priced between €30,000-€35,000 ($34,000 to $40,000).

New Alpine Vision Concept Is One Step Before Production [47 Pics & Videos]

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4bB6D97Dbs"]New Alpine Vision Concept 2 - YouTube[/ame]

Quote:
After years of deliberation, delays and even a failed partnership with Caterham, Renault has finally managed to resurrect its Alpine sports brand that is previewing a new production sports car with the Vision Concept.

Revealed on Tuesday at an event in Monte Carlo ahead of a formal world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the mid-engine, two-seater model is a thinly disguised concept with a production version to roll out by the end of this year and go on sale initially in Europe in 2017, before becoming available in other markets around the globe.

The final name has not yet been confirmed, but Alpine has registered the AS1 and AS110 monikers.

The French firm is keeping most of the Vision’s technical specs shrouded in secrecy at this stage, but it has confirmed that it will be powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder mill placed behind the driver. The four-pot is rumored to be a development of the Clio RS’ 1.6-liter turbo, possibly with a larger displacement to offer a lot more power than the latter’s 197hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, possibly paired to a dual clutch transmission with steering wheel paddles driving the rear wheels.

Alpine said that the car’s low weight, understood to be around the 1,000kg or 2,200 lbs mark, will help the future production model achieve 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in less than 4.5 seconds, which matches the Alfa Romeo 4C’s time, beats the Porsche Cayman GTS w/Sport Chrono by 0.1 seconds and is only 0.1 sec behind the Porsche Cayman GT4.

The Vision Concept’s exterior design is heavily influenced by the 2015 Alpine Celebration concept, itself echoing the design of the iconic Alpines from the 1960s and 1970, especially the A110 Berlinette, while its interior has a very futuristic vibe to it with a fully digital instrument panel.

Renault’s plans for the reborn Alpine brand, which delivered its last production car, the A610, back in 1995, won’t stop with the production iteration of the Vision, as the French will expand its range with additional models in the near future.

“All of us at Alpine are proud to have been entrusted with the task of bringing back Alpine to sports car lovers around the world”, said Michael van der Sande, Alpine Managing Director. “Our job is to faithfully re-interpret famous Alpines of the past and project Alpine into the future with a beautifully designed, agile, high-performance sports car. Our Alpine Vision show car is immediately recognizable as an Alpine yet resolutely modern. We look forward to revealing the production model later this year.”

It seems to be a forced design to look like the old A110.

Not a bad thing, imo one of the best looking cars to date

I guess this will compete directly with the Alfa 4c, and assuming its good (something that Renault is are become quite good at now a days), this looks like a kick ass left-field alternative to a Porsche 718 Caymen or BMW M2

now.... will it come to the land of Red, White & Blue?

Renault I think has lost its way in recent years. Clio RS200 Cup was a kicking car, the new one a real lemon.

Very hit or miss in my opinion.

Either the car will be brilliant (like you said the RS200 Cup) or it will fall flat on its face, no middle grand!

Never buy french cars, that's the rules
(Yes I'm French)
It might suck a bit less than the 4c. As Fiat is even more lame than Renault.

Edit: yes Renault Sport is nothing like Renault, but they sadly have to work with what Renault gives them.

Renault Alpine Vision concept has 80% final design

Quote:
Renault has taken the wraps off the Alpine Vision concept which previews a production model due before the year’s end.

The stunning concept featuring a retro-inspired design was unveiled today during a special event organized in Monte Carlo as a connection to the classic Alpine’s rally success. It’s basically an evolution of last year’s Celebration concept and this time Alpine says the design is 80% ready for the production variant.

Renault-owned Alpine labels the Vision concept as being a “high-performance, elegant, lightweight car dedicated to driving pleasure in its very purest form.” This is a mid-engined vehicle with a focus on a lightweight construction and rumors say the road-going car will weigh as little as 2,425 pounds (1,100 kilograms).

There’s still no word regarding what will power the revived Alpine sports car, but reports are indicating it will use the turbocharged 1.6-liter gasoline unit from the Clio RS. However, the engine is expected to receive a bump in displacement to 1.8 liters and will develop approximately 250 horsepower (186 kilowatts) as standard. The range-topping model is expected to generate as much as 300 hp (224 kW).

Chances are the engine’s output will be channeled to the rear axle with help from a seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox that will likely be the sole offering. Regardless of transmission, we do know for sure the production-ready Alpine will run the sprint to 62 miles (100 kilometers) per hour in less than four and a half seconds.

As far as the interior is concerned, the cockpit is driver-focused and comes with a limited number of buttons and knobs to reduce distractions. The dashboard sends a bit of an Audi TT vibe and you will notice the cabin mixes up leather, aluminum, and carbon fiber. Two bucket seats with harnesses boost the cabin’s appeal and there’s also a Sport mode which upon activation should make the vehicle more responsive and agile.

An official introduction of the production car will take place before the end of 2016 and the model is slated to go on sale in the second quarter of 2017. If the Alpine-branded sports car will be a success, other models will be launched in the following years, including an SUV.

That looks like a winner, for $35-40k. Too bad it'll never come to the US.

New Alpine Sports Car Has Already Been Styled As A Convertible

Quote:
Even though the Alpine Vision Concept isn't the road-going sports car we were all hoping for, it does give us a good idea of how the production-spec model will look when it hits the market.

If the sports car proves successful, it'll be just the first in a long-line of lightweight cars from Alpine and conceivably, one of those additional cars could be a convertible version of the so-called AS1 or AS110.

As the hardtop's key rivals, the Porsche Cayman and Alfa Romeo 4C, are available as convertibles, a driver focused Alpine roadster could see the light of day and if it looked anything like the car presented here by Theophilus Chin, could prove quite a hit.

At the front, the car maintains the same unique features of the coupe including the two prominent central fog lights and bold hood with three sporty bulges. At the rear, a decklid similar to the Porsche 911's has been designed although in our ideal world, the car would instead adopt prominent buttresses like the Porsche Boxster Spyder.

It's much too early to say if such a model will ever materialize, but if it does, it would certainly spice up the market.
