Any ideas?
You should not be getting any vibrations. Something is loose or worn out, or out of balance.

Suspect it is and I'm just now driving hard enough to notice it.

Thanks.
What CSG Mike said. Check your fender liners for damage.

Also the electric power steering stops working when it is stressed too much. It happens to me going into turn 7 at the glen every time. I just muscle through it.

I'm having the car corner balanced on Wednesday, I will have them check it out

If electric power steering assist stopped working, you'd get a lighter wheel (at speed), not a heavier one!

Most power steering systems provide a lot of assist at low speed, and then add resistance at high speed, to help stabilize the car.

I am wondering if anyone here removed dust shields behind the rotors. Does this help keep brakes cooler? Any downsides?

I have. They were rubbing a bit and making a nasty squealing noise. Hard to say definitively if cooling is better, but maybe a little? No specific downsides to mention so far.

Is it because you have big rotors? Any concerns that without the dust shields the heat from rotors can cause degradation of abs wiring and sensors and etc?

I thought these cars have a pretty well known issue with high steering effort under high load situations, like on tracks that have a carousel or similar?

It happens in my car every time at the carousel at NCM, and I know I'm not bottoming out.

Its your power steering. It is a known issue. I went though all of this a year or two ago. I was bottoming out. So I raised the car, now I am not bottoming out but still have the same turning issue. There are a bunch of other threads on this. I choose to ignore it bc it is pretty easy to muscle through.

Rubbing more than likely came from the dust shields getting bent. It's easy to do when removing and remounting the wheels. Then the dust shield makes contact with the back side of the rotor and makes a "grinding" noise.

The main point of the dust shield is to do exactly like the description, keep dust from components that reside behind it. The other main function is to help keep heat from the brakes off things like ball joints. A combination of corrosive brake dust and heat means that it'll eventually destroy the dust boots of suspension related components.

I've noticed the steering get heavier on high g corners on my stock BRZ w/ stock wheels and 225/17 SX2's. I noticed this on T9 at Laguna, and T3 at Sonoma. No sign of rubbing.

I figured it could also be attributed to g high loads and the self centering forces due to caster angle. Usually the more load the front wheels see, the heavier the steering effort.

It doesn't interfere w/ my driving, so I just muscle through it. No harm, no foul.

Now I would really get worried if the steering wheel got light during a high g turn!!!

I have.
I also installed Porsche brake ducts that attach to the lower control arms. On my stock car w/ SX2's (TW260 tires), it helps, but I can't say by how much. The inner brake pad wears more slowly than the outers and there is less heat checking (cracking) on the inner surface of the rotor.

I wrapped my lower ball joint and abs sensors w/ reflective heat tape to help protect them from the heat w/out the dust shield.

Does the tape stay on when the brakes get hot? What kind of tape is it?
