I'm running a 120GB SSD. Mechanical drives would probably need external power.

Oh good, I was just planning on loading up most of my media onto an external HDD and call it good, even though a 32gb sdcard would probably work just fine for media storage.

I like the CA-Fi... but for the price, do you guys think it would be better to just get a 7" tablet and wire to an amp. Just a question...

There another thread of someone using a Nexus 7 in front of a basic 1din HU and using the aux in on the HU to accept the tablet's audio.. I would question the final fit and finish of that solution, especially the software aspect and potentially the audio quality of using the tablets headphone jack as your primary audio source, but it is doable.

I think you'd be sacrificing too much by going the tablet route. No head unit buttons, no FM radio, no cds/dvds, audio quality, questionable GPS reception, questionable turning on and off, etc.

But yes, it's doable.

Yea... but most radio you can stream online. I have unlimited wireless tether on my Samsung s3 and the GPS isnt bad on my Droid Asus prime. So it can't be that bad. Streaming video would suck on a 3g data, but if a tablet had USB capability you can watch HD movies on it. I hope they widen the market on these Droid based OS radios. Like a Kenwood or alpine or jvc or pioneer.

Oh, I was referring to those without unlimited data plans and actually using the GPS of the nexus in the dash. It would be mounted beneath quite a bit of stuff so I'd question the GPS signal from there.

I would definitely love a wider market, but I feel that Kenwood and Pioneer and Alpine would just muck it up with what they do best; overcharge for crappy hardware and crappy interfaces. I mean, they charge 1000$ + now for 533-700 Mhz SoC's and 100+$ for map updates...

I really need to team up with an electronics engineer and do a kickstarter.

Now you have to purchase the Parrot unit and do a side-by-side-by-side showdown. I really like the Parrot, but I'm really on the fence since it lacks a physical volume knob (i'm not convinced re: the swiping controls yet).

How is the installation? What accessories do you need for the Ca-Fi unit?

I HATE the stock unit and I was just thinking the other day that someone should make something like this.

The installation is just like any other head unit. You need the wiring harness and dash kit. That's pretty much it.
