who's afraid of buying the first Gen?

appart from all the bugs and stuff that come from new cars/engines
I feel like the second I purchase this car they will announce a stronger version (STI maybe). I'm sure that if any turbo/supercharged versions
are being worked on, they will keep their mouths shut so that these news
won't affect initial sales.

I've waited so long for this car that I can't wait another year or so to see what happens.
I'm sure a lot of you feel the same way.

If the depreciation is not that bad, I may consider trading in for an upgraded version

After years of them developing (and teasing), I don't have the will power to wait for the next gen. I also will take some pride in telling my future children that I owned a first gen, as I am sure that this car will have a long and healthy history.

It also happens that within the next 6 months I will be desperatly be needing a new car and as of right now this is one of the few cars that I have found all that appealing over the last few years.

I'm not worried about it. I'm sure there may be some hiccups but I have faith that they've tested these mules enough to eliminate any huge problems. I'm also not planning on spending the extra $10k for an STI version so I don't feel like I need to wait.

But the '08 was known to be a let down when it was first released. BRZ is getting rave reviews and I don't have much negative to say from what I read.

I don't mind buying a first gen. I have had 3 first gen vehicles with no major issues to date.

i would be worried yes but i've had a first year scion tc in the past and although that car was 100% toyota with great reliability history, it didnt fail me for the 5 years i owned it.

with subie, i might be 1% more worried just because its a different manufacturer. however all the testing and development of the car for the past 2-3 years must have proved something for reliability

They're both made in the same factory...

trust me you have nothing to worry about Subaru's reliability,
I abused/enjoyed my 06 wrx for 5 year wihout a SINGLE problem on that car. there might be tiny bugs here and there but the rest should be good forever!
I had stage 2 which has more torque and power than a Scion could dream of and never had a problem.
Subaru's are kickass cars.
