93 octane called for - who sells?

The BRZ manual indicates that 93 octane is the preferred rating for the fuel. Does any chain carry that in the GTA? And how much more is it than 91?

Do you have a Mohawk or Husky?

One of them has 93 and the other has 94 i think.

From the BRZ manual:
Quote:
Unleaded gasoline (93 AKI [Research Octane Number 98] or higher)
If unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 93 AKI (98 RON) is not available,
unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 91 AKI (95 RON) may be
used with no detriment to engine durability or driveability.
AKI being the NA standard, so yes 93 is recommended here. There is probably a 3-4 hp loss with 91 I would estimate.

it's not the HP loss i'm worried about

whatever the manufacturer recomends is whats needed for an efficient burn

using crappy gas leads to less optimal burn and requires timing retardation

all in all bad things

so i'm looking at it more from a preventative maintenance point of view....

guess you don't get 12.5 comp without sacrafices :/

I know the Ultrama used to sell 93/94. Since they are part of PetroCanada now they should sell 93/94 then. The shell closed to me only sell 91.

And it is confirmed that this is 93 AKI/98 RON since in Japan 98 RON is fairly common.

OK did a bit of research, there are some good threads on rennsport.com on this topic.

A lot of anti-ethanol sentiment there, based on what it does to plastics in the fuel supply system in the car, and its hydrophilic properties. NOT good for winter use or long-term in gas tanks. Unfortunately all the 94 octane sold in the GTA ( some Petro-Canada stations, Husky) is cut with ethanol. The only non-ethanol premium around is Shell's V-power 91. Some of the turbo Porsches do have to have the 94 or they start throwing codes, but virtually all the NA owners go for the Shell (there is even a poll!). Lucas octane boost additive recommended highly for moving a 91 higher.

But I see the BRZ manual actually recommends the use of ethanol laced fuels (no more than 10% mix):
Quote:
Cleaner burning gasoline, including reformulated gasoline that contains oxygenates
such as ethanol or MTBE (Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether) is available in
many areas.
SUBARU recommends the use of cleaner burning gasoline and appropriately
blended reformulated gasoline. These types of gasoline provide excellent
vehicle performance, reduce vehicle emissions and improve air quality
I just called CS at Petro-Canada, their 94 Ultra is "up to 10%" ethanol so should be safe (?)

Pretty sure Chevron's 94 is non-ethanol.

ive been a shell user since day one and a happy customer, all the other gas providers somehow do it differently, and i dont like it

particulary petrocan, i can feel that my car just doesn't like whatever it is that they have in it.

I'll be using Shell V-Power once i get the car.

Unfortunately that's left-coast only. The fact that it's a 94 not 93 though is not a good sign - you should check this out.

For Vancouver Chevron and Petro canada, both have 94. Chevron IMO has the best gas, their rewards programs sucks, but whatever makes the machine happy. My wrx has a 94 octane tune, so i don't much choice.

Please don't put husky/mohawk/superstore/canadian tire gas in your cars...they deserve better
