Nice Price or Crack Pipe?
Hi All,
Cliff Notes: 07 G35 Coupe 6MT 185k Mi KBB Condition Scale: Fair Needs Immediately: Tires + Brakes, Maybe clutch Current Seller offer: $4300, Was $6750 (I think He's Desperate) Goal: $3500 Storytime: On my commute home from work, I came up on a 07 G35 Coupe 6MT with 185K on the clock and an asking price of $6750. Way Too Much IMHO so I skipped. It's been 1 month now and it's still for sale. So just for laughs I reach out to the seller about a week ago and he said he'd do $4750 so I said I'll think about it. Got a text yesterday asking if still interested. Long Story short, after telling him it's a bit beat, needs tires + brakes, and just by looking at it alone I wouldn't touch it for 5k. He's dropped down to $4300. I said without test driving it, I can't say for sure. Background on the car: Seller is 3rd owner - Got it at 185K mi from wife's boss, who Used it for Business and bought himself at 29K mi. Sporadic service records, haven't checked Carfax... I don't think it will sell in the next few weeks, and it seems like he wants to get rid of it quick. Seeing as the car has been sitting for some time, and he reach out to me and dropped the price, I'm hoping to stretch it out and try to get him down to at least $3500. Don't need the car at all...already have a 03 suburban, 00 civic, 16 Camry and lastly my favorite - 15 FRS. However, it could be a fun toy to have. Last edited by ssidd; 05-15-2017 at 10:06 AM. For $3500, I'd buy it and continue running it as long as it was streetable, and then when enough petty stuff was not working/needing maintenance/replacement, just gut it and build a track rat. It's basically just a 2+2 Nissan Z, so while I wouldn't bother trying to autocross it, the long wheelbase might make for a good track platform.

Car is bone stock, no modifications from what I was told or from what I could see. Adult owned by older an gentleman - or so I've been told. I didn't get any pictures because to be quite honest i didn't care much until he dropped the price yesterday. I can try to get some if I test drive later this week. I did forget to mention, Seller said that all fluids/belts were replaced before he put it up for sale. |

Mods are one thing but repair and upkeep on a 185K mile toy are something totally different. Parts are probably not cheap for them either.

I'd think it depends what you're fixing...if it's all the electronic/power assist interior doodads that come with the 'Infiniti' badge, then yeah. But it's just the FM/Z33 chassis which has been around for 15 years now, so I'd assume hard parts aren't any worse than owning a Z. I have no idea if they have a reputation for being expensive though.

Had me a 99 Honda accord (first car, hand me down from pops). Got her with 134k mi day I graduated High School and at 315k mi I had to let her go...after dropping $1500 in repairs over a period of a half a year, wife/wallet finally convinced me to get rid of it. BUT I Replaced it with an FRS... That's why I am taking caution as to figuring out what's wrong but also lowering the cost of the potential investment risk. He needs to sell it, but I don't need the car. Therefore, I will buy only on my terms. |

The 6 speed manual G35 coupes all came equipped with the nicer fixed caliper Brembo brakes.
That's all I wanted to mention

Well, KBB says $4.3K is a good price for "Fair" condition. You mention a sporadic service history.
The best thing to do is drive it. But yea. It doesn't sound like anyone else is biting, so I'd push him down knowing the work that will be involved. |

The G35 is a bit of a boring car, it has some power but with the soft suspension and a heavy chassis, it's not that good of a car. There's better choices out there.
But if you're interested in a sporty car with decent luxuries and looks, that's the car. Brakes and Clutch job aren't cheap either.
