It wasn't stripped down that was how it arrived!

Yep, I had a Saturn SL. I loved that car because no matter what I backed into, it wouldn't dent -

While I have you on the line there @finch1750 , do you know of a place to eat up in Loche, called Al the Wop's? Have you eaten there?

When I was roaming around the delta, back in the day, I always made it a point to stop in there and have a steak and peanut butter on toast.

Have I asked you this before ?? Seriously ??

Yep, when I was a kid back in Ohio, I would spend hours roaming around old country junk yards - just to look at the old cars -

Anyone else do that - or was I just weird?

I'm in the 'a kids going to behave better in a car they care more about' camp, in case anyone is keeping score.

I wanted to, but I wasn't allowed to. Welcome to the 90s.

That's a shame you missed that childhood experience.

I was fortunate to have several old time junk yards within the range of my Cushman motor scooter. I got to know the old coots who "managed" them. I would ask them if I could go roam around in their junk yard in trade for me doing some chores that they needed help with, like cleaning out a chicken/hog house or moving some hay.

When I was 14, I got my first car. Then the junkyards became my main source of parts (like @Tcoat mentioned). Now, to pay for the parts, I would have to work quite a bit longer. Sometimes, all I had to do was pull up and have a seat on a bucket, under a shade tree and listen to several "back-in-the-day" stories.

Now, I'm too damn lazy to change my own oil -

At the rate my father and brother's were dragging home old cars my mother thought our place WAS a "country junk yard".
At one point there were both a 1935 and a 1936 La Salle sedan parts cars at the very back of the lot. There was a 1953 Jowett Javelin parts car, a 1956 Pontiac 2 door hard top (with front end damage) hot rod project behind the rear garage and a 1931 Durant four door sedan parts car on the east side of the rear garage. A 1939 La Salle two door businessman's coupe restoration project sat behind our house as did my oldest brother's 1954 Jowett Javelin and my other brother's 1947 Austin A-40. (A perfectly good running car he drove home and then ripped the running gear out of to put into his 1947 MG TC that had been butchered.) Dad's 1960 Buick Invicta four door hard top sat in front of west garage door. His 1965 Corvair Corsa 180 Turbo was always packed between the houses.
The two stage garage consisted of a large 1 1/2 storey over sized two car front with a five car storage addition behind it. The front garage was home to the 1934 La Salle convertible coupe, a Hall Scott four cylinder engine out of a post WW1 JN4 Jenny biplane, a 193? Scott Flying Squirrel 500cc twin cylinder, liquid cooled two-stroke motorcycle and a 1936 Cord 810 Westchester sedan. In the back was a 1931 Cadillac V16 7 passenger town sedan, a 1932 Frontenac four door sedan, 1938 Cadillac 60 Special sedan, a 1939 La Salle four door sedan and my oldest brother's 1965 Corvette coupe.

Yes, looking in junk yards was a thing!
Motor City Auto Parts, (later renamed Dom's) was just a 15 minute drive from my parent's house.

UPDATE:
Thank you again to everyone but the final verdict is that my parents are willing to give me 2000$ as a down payment, as long as I get a Subaru. They really don't feel comfortable with an FRS even though literally everyone is saying that FRS/BRZ are the same exact cars.
TY again everyone! I feel so welcomed from the ft86 community already haha :p

Edit:
Lots of people are asking about a bit about me so here it goes:

I (M 20) am a uni student. I currently have a Mazda 3 2014 GS auto, but my family needs another car and I said why not give this amazing car to my sister and get myself an even cooler one
My mom also specifically wanted a "cool" looking car since we have had boring cars all for the most of our life. IMO the FRS/BRZ/86 is the best bang for buck "least boring" car I could find, so that's why we want it
Hope that clears things up. Feel free to ask if y'all have any more questions

Wait, thought you had cash? Sounds like your parents are buying you a car, so yes, get what they want you to get.

With 152k I might consider a Ferrari, or a down payment on a house.

So a subaru, get the BRZ then.
