Stock belt ok with 3.125 pulley?

I'm running the factory vortech belt with the 3.125 pulley. I have another belt that was recommended for that pulley size but the shop that installed the pulley and tuned the car did not find it necessary to switch the belt.

The belt size should be slightly smaller, vortech recommends 060966. Belt size with stock pulley is 060970.

FYI goodyear does have a gatorback belt that is the correct size as well, I have heard good things from people running gatorback belts in a supercharger application (less breakage etc.)

For the 3.125" pulley the 4060967 is closest to the spec'd K060966 that I've found

Whats the danger in running the factory belt? Its a pain to put a new belt on.

It isn't the proper length.... the danger would be the belt failing prematurely or slipping/coming off. Not sure where the stroke on your tensioner is with the stock pulley belt on a 3.125" pulley, but I would just change it so you don't have to worry about the belt failing at an inopportune time

I am sure the shop that installed your kit did tons of engineering work to come to the conclusion that the factory belt would work better than the proper provided belt.

I would swap the belt for the correct size. I have had to help another forum member pull the knot it caused out on the side of the road. Not so fun when the engine is hot and you have no tools around.

Sorry to revive this thread- considering a 3.125 pulley on a Vortech V3, running 93 octane. Anything else I need other than a smaller belt? Idler pulley change? Or does it work fine with the stock Vortech idler? Thanks

Ok nvm on the above, bought the 3.125 pulley and belt, using the same idler, but another question:

On the V3 unit I currently have, to get to the pulley bolt and swap the pulley I have to pull this grey cap off. Says that I'll void the warranty or whatever, that's fine, but I'm having trouble just prying it off with a screwdriver. Any tricks to getting this thing off, or do I just have to go a bit more caveman on it? Already have mangled this thin metal lip surrounding the plastic cap, and just don't want to do something I'll regret later. Thanks in advance
