Actually Alfa's last few models are quite reliable from what I heard (159, Giulietta).
I owned Alfa 147 before and it was quite head turner compared to the so popular Golf.
Too bad their selespeed transmission sucks. Brilliant idea but difficult to maintain. Well I guess even the SMG and PDK also have their own problems.

Anyway too bad Alfa is putting 4C in more premium class.
86 is actually reminds me of old Alfas: RWD, lightweight and affordable.
In the Alfa owner's forum there are discussions about Alfa missed the boat again by not launching something like 86.

Maybe they will release more affordable roadster with Mazda in few years.

Don't forget They own a chunk of Crysler so they can get input from engineers concerning reliability.

So I have been quietly watching this car for a while now and I have to say that I want one very much. The 1800lb dry weight, 240HP, 0-62 in 4.5 seconds, dual clutch transmission, etc. etc. and all for a starting price of 60k euros...which will likely translate to about $50-60k in America (always amazes me how expensive European cars are in Europe). I personally like the LED light clusters, dunno why, but I do. My only issue is that I don't know if I would fit in one...I'm 6'4" so I think I'm gonna have to sit in one before I even consider putting a deposit on one.

Most cars sold in the UK are listed for ~ the same number but in different currency:

Example:
GT86 = 25k BP and FR-S = 25k USD

So it should be ~60K USD; which will put it right in line with a Cayman S...

So for those of you guys comparing this to a Cayman, I think it's possible that this is actually in a performance territory in line with the Cayman S, not a base Cayman...that's just based on numbers. Without anyone with seat time it's a moot point, but for power to weight figures the 4c is waaaaay better. With an 1800lb dry weight (2000lb est. curb weight) and an estimated 270BHP engine (7.4lbs/hp), this looks a hell of a lot better than the Cayman's 2932lb curb weight and 275BHP(10.7lbs/hp). The Cayman S rings in at 2910lbs and 325BHP (8.9lbs/hp). Then take into account the 4c is a carbon monocoque chassis with aluminum subframes (like a real supercar) vs. the Cayman's aluminum spaceframe. It's gonna be really interesting when the 4c comes out because it's gonna be either really good or fall on its face, needless to say the fact that a car with a carbon monocoque chassis is even remotely affordable will send waves through the industry.

Think about it, CF monocoque is safer than metal, lighter, and stronger. It will help cars shed weight and increase fuel economy. Lower HP engines will be able to be used to hit performance numbers reserved for the true exotics. It's really exciting to be honest!

This does really look awesome, agreed.

I hope all you say is true. And I hope it depreciates nicely 2-3 years old. And I can afford one used at that point. :-)

I doubt these will depreciate, unless its a flop. I mean all cars depreciate but I dont think these will be like Mercedes that drop $10k out the door. The other thing to remember is only 1500 will make it to America, 500 of those will be launch editions in the first year. I hope to get one of the non launch editions, and see about pushing a bit more boost...300whp should be feasible with that engine!

Hope to see more big European brand now try to come up with some concepts to compete with the 86's success. The bottom line is I still take Japanese car at the end of the day for practical reliable and easy maintenance
