Seems to stumble at idle?

Is a stumble during idle normal for this engine?

Need more information. But it is most likely the a/c compressor is turning on and off.

It's been happening to me when the engine is cold these mornings.

At stop signs it almost feels like it's going to stall when idling.

Only until maybe 3-4 minutes into it, it warms up and my idle doesn't seem so uneasy.

I'd say not normal, if the engine is warm.

When it's cold, you may consider letting the engine do its little warm up routine (about 15-20 seconds) before you head out....

Hmm...when I am stopped at idle such as waiting for someone there is definitely some stumbling/purring occasionally...I also have always had this in my tacoma.

Also, I have driven hundreds of rentals for my job and they do similiar so I'm under the impression that it is normal unless it starts sounding like it is about to turn off...

It would seem to be common normalty but if I'm wrong I would need to get my cars checked out or like the other person said perhaps it has to do with the AC?

The AC compressor also runs if you have it on "defrost".

Mine does this as well, seems to dance between 500-1000 rpm when at idle with the AC on. Pretty sure it has something to do with the compressor as I hear it click when the RPM fluctuates. I recall my brothers tacoma doing the same thing.

I get a 'stumble' as well when coming to a stop as the rpm drops after I depress the clutch (mostly when cold, seems more stable when warm). Barring the A/C compressor (which results in idle hunting for me) I think it's a consequence of setting the idle as low as possible to squeeze a couple 1/10ths of an mpg out of the car during the city cycle. People with tunes have raised the idle and it seems to get rid of the stumbles and hunting. But I'm just going off of hearsay.

Unless it stalls or you get a check engine light nobody is going to fix the problem for you, it'll be called 'normal operation'. Bleh makes me nervous.

You may be experiencing the "idle dip" that these cars have stock. Mine idled pretty low and rough too when I got it. A good tune with a raised idle helped ten fold. Its soooo smooth now.

Mine does this as well. A few stumbles here and there during a complete cold start but I think it's normal.
