The JDM base 86 and BRZ are 3.727 final, and so is the IS250, so you can buy either of these two to increase top speed.

Would love to see a video of some full throttle runs to illustrate just how quickly it runs through each gear.

The difference wouldn't be huge, something like this would probably amount to about .25 seconds in the quarter mile. Which is a sold gain for the money, especially if you can do the install yourself. It's more about the old Smokey Yunick adage, make as much power as you can, and gear to suit. For longevity and reliability RCE seems to be happy with the power they're making, now it's time to work on the gearing.

I REALLY like this mod, it's something that no one would know was done to the car unless you tell them. It will leave a lot of people tearing their hair out.

Myles/Andrew someone asked for rpm vs speed for 60/70/80 mph earlier in the thread. I think it was missed. I'd like to see the answer as well if you've noticed. Also, what tire size are you running. IIRC you guys went a little taller when you moved to the 18's. And finally, how different is the noise level in the car?

IS250, IS300, and 86 share same differential size. All are interchangeable.

IS300 had an optional factory LSD, which is similar to the standard Torsen LSD found in the 86.

IS250 only has open differential from the factory.
MT comes with 3.7:1, and AT comes with 3.9:1

Some guys, including myself, have found used IS300 LSDs and dropped them in. With the release of the FRS, some people will have the option of getting a new one to install, but they're not cheap new haha.

I'm starting to like this idea. A very good mod that would be stealthy.

Ahh that's right. We've got another one in pdf form with more detail (it's a table). I'll either google doc it or put it on our facebook tonight.

You do realise what you said contradicts itself.
If a speedo measures tranny and you modify the diff, it will offset the speedo.

Seeing as there is no error in the speedo, I would say the 86/BRZ may be using the ABS/TC sensors in the wheel's to get the speed, so modifying the driveline, apart from the wheel sizes, should not affect the speedo in any way. Of course I could be wrong, but if I was Toyota and wanted to cut cost's that's the way I would measure speed.

This is definitely a mod on my TO DO list. It will make it into more of a "Type R" kind of car.
