I have also noticed about 5 golf ball sized spots on my garage floor. Ill take a look at that plate at lunch. (just had my first free oil change from a local subaru dealer) Currently at 3100 miles.

Has anyone with this issue called SOA and voiced a complaint? Im wondering how many people it takes to voice the problem or how many work orders SOA sees before an official recall or TSB is issued. Anyone know?

If a few people complain on the nhtsa website Subaru will take notice of it...they monitor those sites

The oil was leftover from my dealership oil change on Saturday. Apparently they spilled some on the skid plate and didn't clean it off (what the dealership mechanic said anyway). Got home, pulled thhe plate, cleaned it off (looked like I had some oil residue on block off plate :/) and will see if any more oil leaks.

I've had the leak for a while. Managed to pull the plate off last weekend. I don't have any pics, but it appeared that the oil was leaking thru the area of the gasket separating the two halfs of the hole. (admittedly it could look like that since there was obviously a bit of oil in the area when I pulled the plate and it simply ran down it)
Scraped off what I could with a razor, very lightly roughed up the affected area with fine sandpaper, clean thoroghly, liberally gooped it up with some RTV I had and sealed it. Car is still in storage so I haven't run it to check if it worked. *fingers crossed*

Good news! After talking to the Service manager this morning he told them to just get the car fixed and to quit waiting for something from SoA (and I'm pretty sure he could smell the BS that their tech was trying to feed everyone). My car is now leak and smell free.

jimbobrand - Anything you can update us on regarding what they did this time and what parts were used?

I was going to stop by and talk to the service manager at my local dealer tomorrow and this might be of great help.

Thanks!

This time they just cleaned the parts they installed last time and used new silicone. The part numbers are listed on a previous page in this thread but it was three new bolts and a new plate (as far as I know these are not new part numbers for this fix).

Took the FR-S into the dealer today for the oil leak issue. The invoice states "Reseal Rear Camshaft Caps and Recheck" and they used the same "FIPG Oil Pan" sealant note in an earlier post.

The trip home was only a few miles, but the bottom of the plate is dry for now. I'll check it again in a few days and report back. The "Rear Camshaft Caps" appears to be the 3-bolt plate as I can see evidence of the new sealer.

Update for you all. The cheesy Felpro cork gasket is still holding up after over 1000 miles, 200 of which are track day miles. At a Blackhawk farms trackday this week there 2 other frs/brz manual transmission cars. Both of their plates were leaking and both had under 10,000 miles.

Lately I was at my Toyota dealers showroom and I could show them oil leaking from a brand new GT86. The reactions to that was like no way, it has to be like this... ahh it's just dirt... finally ...

My fix:
I've cleaned and degreased the stiuuupid leaking plate and put some heat resistant silicone to it. I also applied new silicone to the (degeased!) counterparts (engine block) and screwd the plate on again (16Nm, 11.8 ft.lbf).
Picture after disassembly:

EDIT: After one week of daily driving I can report that my fix holds together. No leak, no smell.
I used a good amount of something like this to replace the old silicone sealing (Originally Subaru/Toyota uses the grey Three Bond 1217 silicone on the leaky plate):

Heatresistant silicone (red): Subaru/Toyota uses something similar for the gearbox of the 86: Three Bond 1281 (don't use with copper parts!):

For the leaky-plate the red stuff works perfect in my case. So I'd recommend Three Bond 1281 or similar if you fix it yourself.
