Plus-sizing and hoonability-- curious about the experiences of the 18x8+ crowd
Hey guys,
I'm currently trying to decide between filling out the fenders a bit better with a set of 18x8 wheels and leaving the car on 17x7's to preserve its ability to slide around at relatively low speeds. Although I'll probably have my car out at the odd autox or two per year, the car will primarily be a DD for spirited back-roads driving. Although there are some suspension / drivetrain changes I'll be making to try and improve on the balance of the car, I want to preserve its hoonability. Anyway, I was looking at some 18x8 wheels last week that look fantastic on the car (along with a ~1 inch drop), but I'm wondering if it's really a good idea to increase overall wheel/tyre diameter slightly while adding width and moving the weight further out on a car that isn't very torque-y. I've been poking around the forums and it seems like a few people have said they aren't able to spin wheels or slide around as easily on larger wheels and tyres. While I'm sure this is a big plus to people building track / DE cars, it's not really what I'm looking to do with my car. Should I just stick to 17x7s and shitty, hard-compound tyres? |

If you are willing to spend the money for some light weight wheels you will be OK with 8 or 8.5. Keep in mind light weight tires too.
Introduce some camber and you will have more fun sliding. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 |
