Yeah. If you don't fix this, it will get louder, abnoxiously loud every time you press the clutch, and you will feel it in the pedal. After some time, the bearing will fail, and you won't be able to go into gear, leaving you stranded wherever you are.

You will hear this noise, it's as obnoxious as serpentine belt squeal. And it does not go away, the bearing is getting heated while not being lubricated anymore, it overheats and destroys itself.

Well I don't hear anything when I depress the clutch pedal when the car is off or running, I do hear the Throw Out Bearing rotation.

The throwout/release bearing should be pretty quiet if you can hear them. You'll know when it's going.

So I do not have a squeak when the pedal is depressed just sitting not running. I have a a grunting noise that you hear and feel when shifting gears while driving. I took the car to the dealer almost a year ago at 2500 miles after buying it new. They drove it and told me there was nothing they could do even after I had told them the throw out bearing is a common issue.

Monday I called a different dealer and told them about the SB that had just come out. I asked if I could bring it in to be evaluated to see if I can have it replaced. They didn't even ask me to bring it in. They ordered that new bearing and I will drop the car off Monday.

I am happy. The clutch has been driving me nuts from the beginning. It's been my only real complaint other then my rims peeling since this is the RS 2.0.

I am working with my local dealer to address the TOB issue. As we know, there is an updated part and I was able to get my hands on the TSB. Hope it helps others with getting the issue fixed.

Had mine fixed under warranty at 28k after 3 years and a few weeks. So technically out of the 3 year warranty, but I took the car in before the 3 year mark was up. Took the service manager a few weeks back and forth to talk to his tech support, but later discovered the TSB came out right at about the time we were trying to diagnose the problem.

They found lots of gunk around the throwout bearing, and the bearing was not rotating smoothly. They cleaned and lubricated all pivots and shafts and installed new TOB. The service manager said they used a different lube than the original for the fix. Clutch action is buttery smooth now. Took about two business days to get the job done.

Just to update on my issue. Had a new TOB installed per the TSB and I can confirm that the sound is gone and the clutch is buttery smooth. Such a dramatic change that I would even go as far to say it feels like a completely different car now. Gear engagement improved and is not as rough as it was previously. Highly recommend replacing the factory TOB with this updated part.

Anyone know of any good dealers in Southern California to get this done?

I took it to cabe Toyota in long Beach and they pretty much said I have to bring it in during the week get confirmation from Toyota, and if Toyota says yes then they start doing the work if they find anythong wrong with the clutch other than the throwout bearing then none of it is covered and I have to pay for everything.

Seems kinda sketchy to me.

How difficult would this be to perform at home?

Also, aside from being stranded when the part ultimately fails, is there any risk to the rest of the car by not replacing this piece?
