I bought the car on a Saturday with 4 miles, and by that Wednesday I was over 1000.

I pretty much go along with what the manual recommends. Keep the revs below 4,000 RPMs and vary the speed for the first 1,000 miles and change the oil at 7,500 miles. After, 1,000 miles, I (not the manual) recommend not running it up past 6,500 RPMs. I figure changing the oil (under normal use) more often than one time before 7,500 miles just puts undue wear and tear on the threads of the drain plug .... By not going over 4,000 RPMs after break in ....... you will never beat that mustang at the light ...... humfrz |

Well, any car manufacture can say to change the oil at a higher mileage interval 7500 miles, or 10,000 miles, etc. , but ultimately is that the best thing for the engine? Oil is the engines life blood.
Even with top end synthetic oil (Amsoil, Royal P, etc) , I'd trust that to go 6-8k miles, post 5k miles on the car. Is it more expensive to replace the engine prematurely, or replace the oil at a shorter interval ? Do the math. |

That car lasted me 14 years, without a major overhaul. I truly believe that the manufacturers want their cars engines to last quite a while, therefore, their oil change recommendations reflect that. Yes, I agree, that "oil is an engines life blood". Also, blood is the human body's "life blood" ...... but we don't go around getting blood transfusions all the time .... humfrz |

Well, you're right most of us do not go around getting blood transfusions yearly, etc. , however look at Keith Richards of Rolling Stones. The last several years, he goes to Sweden and gets a full body blood transfusion from virgin Swedish lady blood. This has in turn kept him alive, lively, heart still beating. 1 + 1 = does equal 3 !!
If we had turbos on our cars, that cooks the oil... gets it darker , faster. Thus breaks down the oil faster then N/A engines. |

My 2015 FRS (bought new) is now just under two years old with 36,094 miles currently on the odo.
Can't recall how fast miles accumulated at the beginning. I do recall hitting the rev limiter two or three times, the day after I bought the car (dirt roading in the Lost Coast). Break-in period...what's that ? I've changed the oil every 7500 miles, rotated tires also, nothing more. Zero problems with the car so far. Not even one thing wrong to take it back to the dealership for warranty repairs. Best car I've ever owned for sure. Edit: 9-28-16. Car, now with 36k miles drives and runs better than it did new. Therefore, I suggest disregarding any break-in period manufacturer suggests. Just beat the piss out of the engine from the get go. Certainly my next car will be made by Fuji Heavy Industries, and in Japan only. [Outback and Legacy are made in Indiana, also Impreza beginning 2017 model year]. Note:In May 2016, Fuji Heavy Industries announced that it would change its name to Subaru Corporation pending approval by its shareholders, with the change planned to go into effect in April 2017 Last edited by ToySub1946; 09-28-2016 at 09:49 PM. |

I buzzed mine around town for a couple weeks, then did a road trip to the other corner of Montana and back, hit the 1000 mark about midway there. What a great car. I love it.

After the first two weeks I had about 2500kms. I probably hit 1000 miles in the first week.
