Can you give more info about the two people who's car blew 8,000 miles after the JO2 recall service? I have not heard of anyone at that mileage post recall blowing an engine. So far as I have seen 1,800 miles posted above is the highest mileage after the recall for engine failure. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Vehicle Mileage: 20,450
Vehicle Make: Scion FR-S
Miles After Recall Performed: 80ish
Other work completed with recall: Revised TOB (TSB), spark plugs
Dealership: Coughlin Toyota, Heath OH

So far, the car has started, run, and revved flawlessly. They were kind enough to let me speak with the mechanic while he was reassembling and he was super informative and reassuring, realizing the importance of my car to me. Took a few photos for posterity, which was a plus. He said cleanliness was super important, and that he insisted on it because he didn't want to take it apart again on his own time. I'm not out of the woods yet by any means, but it was nice to see that some real care was put into the work.

Update: 6/19/2020

Been almost exactly a year since the recall work; I've managed to tack on a whole 2k miles, and the car is running beautifully. Probably just me, but it almost seems to rev smoother than before.

Vehicle Mileage: 87K kms
Vehicle Make: Toyota 86 GTS M/T
Miles After Recall Performed: 2100kms
Other work completed with recall: Spark plugs, TOB + re-grease, 100kms after recall changed oil filter (still to inspect it closely, can't see anything tho), recently dumped oil to my proper TGMO 0W20.

Car runs sweetly, nothing new, no leaks, no issues. My Toyota dealer appears to have done the business - as per usual

I figure mine has been going long enough to call it a success.

Vehicle mileage: 115,403
Vehicle make: BRZ
Miles after work was performed: 5,200 and 2 track days
Other work completed with recall: Cam carriers were resealed (main reason for bringing it in)

Car runs great, no issues. I did have my throwout bearing fail very shortly after the recall but I've no issues that I can directly relate to the work that was done.

My car has massive oil leak post-recall work done at dealership. Been in contact with service writer, bringing in car. hopefully they'll take responsibility and fix it...

Umm... I think you are in the wrong thread...

Vehicle Mileage: 43,500mi
Vehicle Make: Subaru
Miles After Recall Performed: 1200mi
Other work completed with recall: head gaskets, head studs, spark plugs

I wasn’t planning on doing the recall due to the low number of reported of valve spring issues and the high number of problems post recall. My car has a lot of miles doing mountain driving and track days. I started blowing coolant out of the top of the overflow reservoir during a track day. Research pointed towards that being a blown head gasket. I didn’t have anyone local that I trusted to work on my car. I learned that the lead tech at a new Subaru dealer was an enthusiast. I talked to him and it sounded like he could be trusted to do the recall correctly and knock out doing the head gaskets at the same time. I bought some Cometic gaskets and ARP studs myself, and paid about an extra $400 for labor. The car has over 1200mi since the work, one drift day, some hard driving in the Smokies, and 3 sessions at Road Atlanta. So far so good!
