Check engine light on new car..

Today could be one of the worst days ever.. My 2006 tsx had a check engine light for a few weeks now and I finally have the time this weekend to get it checked out. I then take the brz out before doing that and bam the check engine light on it comes on. It's a 2017 with 5600 miles on it..

So to owners who have experienced a CEL on low mileage, what is typically the cause? I've tried the gas cap already and don't have the time at the moment to get it checked out yet.

Thanks for reading!

Codes are: P119F and P219A

First off it takes a brave man to drive around for weeks with a CEL and not know what it is for!

Get the code read. There are at least 1,000 things that it could be ranging from a loose gas cap to you are about to blow the engine up or lose your steering suddenly. Guessing at what it could be is just pissing into the wind.

Please buy this:

https://www.amazon.com/KOBRA-OBDII-B...etooth+adapter

And this app:

https://torque-bhp.com/

And for less than $20 total you have a code reader always on hand on your smart phone, along with a ton of other data you may not have even known you wanted to know about your car and what it's doing at any given time. Keep the adapter in your glovebox, and any time the CEL turns on, you can know what the code is in a minute, easy as pie.

And knowing is half the battle...

........ and you KNOW what that is for!

The strategy for you has been put fourth up above.

Back in the day, we didn't have "check engine lights".

How did we know the engine needed attention .. ??

* maybe you saw steam rolling out from under the hood

* maybe the lights went dimmer and the engine stopped running, because it was out of electricity

* maybe you heard loud knocking then a big bam, because there was no more oil pressure

* maybe the brake pedal went all the way to the floor, no matter how many times you pumped it

* maybe you heard a flop-flop-flop sound and the car pulled to the side real bad

* then maybe the car just stopped running ..... because you were out of gas

See how lucky we are today that we have all those gismos looking after our car's engines.

Possibly a dumb question on my part, but its not just the TPMS light right? Its actual CEL?

I think that's a legitimate question, though I'd also hope (which I should know better than to do) that the user knows the difference between the CEL and the TPMS warning. I'd assume so because they mentioned having a CEL on another vehicle, but still, a legitimate question to help eliminate one possibility.

Kinda hoping for the best in his case too, CEL on a car with just 5k miles is strange.

Any modifications?

What exactly would they Google? CEL light on? Still back to square one with a massive number of possibilities and zero idea which one it is. Without a code read even Google is a waste of time.
It is like saying "I have a noise I can't describe and have no idea where it even comes from so what is it?"

I think it's the muffler bearings. I don't know how many forum posts and TSB's I've seen about those damn muffler bearings on the FA20 and the FA20DIT but but they really should have done a recall.

Get a light and shine it up the exhaust tips and tell us what you see. If it's just shiny metal down the pipe, the muffler bearings came loose.

@Mr.ac @Ultramaroon I don't get what I could've googled. My question was really what problems people usually face when they get CEL at "low" miles. Plus I don't have a code yet.

@Tcoat I didn't drive the tsx for weeks with its check engine light lol. It was just sitting there, now both cars have to just sit there

Sadly today is a Saturday and most shops are closed. I swear I thought O'reilly checks CEL lights but turns out they don't. Also, only mods to the car is Perrin catback exhaust.

Oh good! It sounded like you were driving it with one on. If you didn't go into limp mode (can't rev over 3K, Trac light on and no cruise) then it probably isn't serious. Operative word there is "probably" though.
