Ok. I'm no supra owner. I'm no car junkie (yet) so I have a rather... rookie(?) question. :P My friend's grandpa is deciding to sell his Supra TT 94' with 104k miles on it. For.. A ridiculous 12k usd. Its freakin' kept clean in its engine bay and everything is kept pretty stock. Except grandpa Wood liked racing seats so he got some.

Only problem. Its an AT. So... how should I approach this to make it into a MT... lol Btw the car got repainted red so its super sexy. haha

12k is not rediculous and actually very cheap for a supra, I'd jump all over that in a heart beat, especially being almost completely stock, it could probably sell for around 20-23k if you are correct about it being near stock, the manual trans swap will be expensive, all brand new parts(trans, SS clutch lines, high tq capable clutch) will be more the 9,000$, and if you find great deals on used parts the lowest I've ever hear of was around 5,500$ and that's doing all the work their selves

You could go with a Mk3 R154 5 speed transmission with a 1JZ bellhousing. Much cheaper swap, good for 600ish hp without problems. That's what the Mk3 guys do when they swap in 2JZs. Rear diff final drive for the auto should be compatible with the R154 as the Mk3 and Mk4 shared the same auto trans. And the Mk3 auto and manual Turbo models used the same 3.73:1 final drive. If the Mk4 Turbo auto's not too far from that, it should be a go. Still a bit of work, but the 6 speed V160's are HUGE dollars, even used. (I've seen $2500 for one that the seller said needed a rebuild...)

But the Mk4 people would laugh at you for putting a Mk3 trans in it...

Ahhhhh!!! She posted supra store.... Lol that place is setup for failure, I wouldn't use them, although I've been hearing mixed things now that supposedly Titan MS is running supra store as well, but in that case, to be safe Id just use Titan MS. Or if you want something only a half a country away then try BoostLogic. But you know I'm sure there's tons of shops in Cali if you try searching

I'm sure there is. I'm just a bit more curious on how it looks atm. I'll search around a bit more when I get closer to buying it. Fixing it up myself is completely out of the question. I hardly know much about cars but learning! haha

Man thats a lot of work and money to make it MT but $12k isn't bad either. I saw a White '97 Supra for sale today on the way back from one of our jobs and stopped to look, I was in really good shape and had 94k miles but was auto and was going for ~$18k and being that it was from a dealer it was prob not turbo. I think when I finally pull the plug I'll just look for a stock 6spd even if I have to travel...

If you could get the work done cheap, and had an extra $17k upfront, I would recommend buying a Canadian-landed JDM RHD 6 speed for about that $17k, swap the transmissions, then re-sell the now automatic RHD car for $14k.

$3k for a full V160 swap, minus labour. And time ****ing around with two cars in two countries. This would be cheap and good. But not easy.

Cheap, good, easy. Pick two.

So 3k to swap the trannies of both cars? Plus I think I can probably push that 14k RHD more since people in Cali are hungry for RHD cars. That is when they got the money. :P And 17k for the RHD is the cheapest you've found?

They seem to be out of season (6 speed ones anyways...) in Vancouver.

Here's one example: http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pm...404636800.html

(That's about 60,000 miles on it...)

Compare with an auto: http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...391819724.html

Usually the 6 speed JDM's are $17k-$22k

Seems to be R32 GT-R season, though. $11k-$15k seems to be the current range.

Edit: It would end up costing you $3k for the 'parts' between buying and reselling the other car. Labour on the other hand, if you're not doing it yourself, who knows? Depends on your shop or friends I guess. Just bringing one of those JDM cars into Cali is probably more hassle then it's worth.
