Question First oil change at 15000km?

hello, last week I took delivery of my 2016 brz.
I asked the guy at the dealership when i have to come back to get my first oil change. And by my surprise he said 15000km (9000miles).
Is this normal? for me it sounds very very long. but then i checked my owners manual and it too says every 15000km. So im a bit confused now because i see some of you guys do the first oil change at 3-4000 miles or so...
Id like to hear your opinions on this subject.

Do it every 10000km you will be fine. 15000km is fine with the right oil adnd filter (ie no fram filter and boss oils lol), but I do mine every 5000km cuz thats just me.

They did extend the mileage for changes in the US but this is the first I have heard of it for Canada.

OP check the documents that came with it. There should be a service pamphlet there that will give you the requirements in writing.

Double check the manual.

I know for the Canadian version of the manual they list oil changes and maintenance service (which also includes an oil change) as separate items so you actually change the oil more frequently than it appears at first glance.

They actually reduced it in the US. 13-14 said every 7500, my 15 says every 6k.

CONGRATULATIONS on your new car .......

For average driving, I'd suggest you just follow what the owner's manual says .....

It's sort of like the man with one watch always knows what time it is ..... the man with two watches is never sure .........

They seem to be all over the place. My 2016 manual says 7,500. The dealer that sold me the car (Longo) put a sticker on my windshield that said, "Don't forget to schedule your first oil change at 5,000!" I keep hearing 6,000.

I think I will just stick with 5,000 mile intervals. That way, I will have a 1,000 or 2,500 mile buffer if I find myself too busy to do it on time. Easy to remember too...

I do mine every 8,000km (5,000 miles) for the simple fact that makes it every 2 months. There has been a pile of oil through my car. Once I am out of warranty then I will have one batch tested and see what they recommend for duration because it is all nice steady highway miles and the oil looks the same coming out as when it went in.

The Subaru website states the services is recommended every 10000 kilometers.
I just have the dealer do my 20k service (don't ask) and the they put a little sticker on my windshield stating that next service was due at 28000 km.
