Im thinking of doing the same. Im just worried of the quick wear by DDing on them.

DD plus run them in the cool months, swap to RS3s for track in hot months

At least for autocrossing, some classes (e.g. Street Touring) have minimum tread wear requirements.

Spoke with a specialist at Tire Rack, and I believe the ETA on the ZII's should be around January 31st - February from what I was informed, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm still on the OEM Michelin Primacy tires, but am on pace to finishing them up in the next 2-3 months or after another 3 two-day DE's... I'm surprised at how long they've lasted me thus far (5 two-day DE's, some rainy events).

I really need the extra performance & grip that I've heard the Star Spec tires have to offer for our specific vehicle... Don't know how I've lasted with the Prius tires, lol!

I wonder if these will be lighter then the Z1s.

Those were a good 3-4 lbs heavier than either the Conti DW or Michelin PSS that I looked at.

Not likely any lighter. Worth the weight penalty if you need the extra dry grip though.

Nice find, the Z1 Star Specs were very nice tires with excellent grip, can't wait to see how this newer version performs =)

Because there's probably more reinforcement on the z1. Heavier tires arent necessarily a bad thing.

I've had two sets of Z1's. One set on 17" wheels on an NC Miata, and another set of 14" tires on a 1990 Miata. I currently have 15k miles on the tires on the NA Miata and the tires are down to 5/32's of an inch. That's bad considering the hard driving the car gets.

Those other tires aren't in the same performance class as the Z1s.
