That is indeed a huge raise given the current situation.

But we haven't merged yet. There are questions regarding what will happen to the union. Will we all join? Will they be voted out? That kind of stuff. And the 'market adjustments' only went to certain (disgruntled/important/vocal) people.

So this is a bit dirty money from a certain perspective. However the union guys didn't give two shits about us until they started to feel threatened and now they are kissing our asses, too. But their shop all hates each other. Only one guy takes his break in the lunchroom, the rest stay at their workbenches. Everyone snitches on each other over break lengths, etc... We get along better. Not great, but still much better. So working environment is a factor.

Big thing with this potential adjustment is in the meeting I had, they started asking how I was progressing in my new position. I answered truthfully, saying that I'm still not independent/need coaching, but they gave me the ridiculous increase anyways, and offered to pay for the schooling that I'm taking, even though it's only a little job related.
