Hmmm. I'm going to get my 4Runner serviced this coming Monday at the dealer. Hope they have an 86 in the showroom I can try closing the trunk. The latch on my 86 does not catch unless I slam it down pretty forcefully, so I thought all 86/BRZ were the same. Thanks for letting me know.

Everything.
The things people worry about.
The things that people find odd.
The things they complain about.
The things that make the car what it is.
I have become used to all these things and “normal” cars now seem weird to me.

I figure your latch just needs some adjustment. It used to be a simple process, loosen a couple of bolts, wiggle the latch, retighten the bolts. However, today, it probable requires a computer, a shop manual, a special tool and a torque wrench calibrated down to .00001 inch pounds.

Bubba says just to take a small crowbar or a very large screwdriver, stick in in there and pry on that latching rod/bar till it moves up a tad -

WOW! Still simple??

You mean it's just regular bolts and not some sort of reverse threaded, deep set, left hand drive, Torx things ?? -

Just bolts. Although there are probably 100 YouTube videos and 48 forum threads on how to do it.

So if your going down a steep hill and your in a lower gear for engine braking and just using the brake pedal, it won't show what gear your in in the display?

"Is that a six cylinder?"

"I thought that was a new Supra"

"What's it like living off of instant noodles to afford that car?".......

Then insert just about every PoS truck/SUV/sedan/etc that must prove something to me while we drive in traffic, in the form of majestic stop light mashing of the throttle because sporty car.

i've also clutchless shifted, and the effect is the same. clutch-in, or moving the stick to neutral will both cancel the gear indicator display. the gear indicator doesn't show anything until a few seconds after you've realized it was the wrong gear.
