This sort of tone interpretation makes this forum more a psychology help group than a place we talk about modding cars, no one is angry.

Its called being direct

Get that? good.
Ok man whatever you say.

Stupid modification threads darwinistically get shat on and there need be no love for a Land Rover on 22" rims, no matter what the F your style is, for crying out loud do that to a denali, not british steel. People get e-harassed into complete submission for stuff like that on the forums I hang out on when I am not here. No one needs to show respect for ghetto-fab rovers on the rover forums, take that 'personal joy' and keep it to yourself, there is no love to be found for such a modification on any british truck forum, period. Period.
This is basically what happens on every other forum. Should all take a look at hondatech, people get flammed there for nothing.

Or even better bb.com, i'm a member there. People who are easily offended won't last 5 mins on that forum.

I've actually quit car forums for a number of years now (around five or so) just because of the shocking amount of immaturity and confirmation bias. As far as I know, though, the audiworld forums are a pretty helpful place and ft86club looks to be promising too :]

Wow...don't know why I bothered not naming names in my earlier post, when one of the three worst offenders chimes in right behind me.
@gmookher, yeah, you are trying to be offensive; you're just trying to cover for it by saying "you're being honest" or "direct". I don't care where you're from or what your background is, if you tell a person their car looks like/ goes like/ handles like shit, that's rude. It's offensive. It's the sort of thing I'd hope you'd think twice about doing in person, cause if not you're quite likely to lose some teeth one of these days. I am in agreement that the mods can be heavy-handed sometimes around here, but you've been acting like the poster-boy as to WHY they have to be that way.

/rant over.

If you post your mod on the public internet, and it looks like crap, you better be ready to hear that someone thinks so.

Example, on the rover forums, you can count on someone goes to home depot, getting black pvc btoilet plumbing, and building a snorkel. They are proud of it.

You can be me, or someone does the needful and posts that it "Looks like Shit"
No one gets bent, no one moderates. I see no need to be any more polite. Same with if you post 22" rims and I think it looks like shit, you should be okay with posts that commend you, and posts that say it looks like crap, its not rude, its just honestly what I think. Some times I post stuff like "nice" sometimes its "That looks like shit". especially if its shitter pipe!

if you want conformity run a school. If you want community, here we are.

I dont feel its to anyones benefit for me to dilute that down to "I dont prefer that". Thats not my style.

In an internet community, like any real community, there will be folks with different styles of communication. Some more in your face, more brutally honest than you may like, You have to learn to accept that.

I have all my teeth, thanks for the advice, tho.

Honestly, this is all that everything boils down to in the end, isn't it?

On a separate note, it's quite annoying when someone uses "Life isn't/can't always be politically correct!" or "I'm just telling the truth" as some kind of moral justification for their comments. It takes a certain amount of maturity to present yourself in a dignified and respectful manner on an internet forum where there's little to no real-world consequences for bad behavior. You're saying that it's okay to treat others like shit on the internet in the pursuit of some lofty idealistic goal of "honesty".

It's never okay to treat anyone like shit.

WHY is:

Your mod looks like shit=Treating someone like shit?

This is where we fundamentally disagree on what a community is. I want you to laugh in my face if I give you enough comical material. If I make an ass of myself in a pathetic spin out, PLEASE post it on youtube. If my mod sucks, tell me, dont water it down. Do unto others, I guess..

Lets not infer anger, or infer what one man is treating another man like, if all thats being said is "FAIL". These are differences in philosophy, etiquette, and very much a real part of the world we all live in, and drive FRS and BRZs in.

OP posts a thread about being nice and not starting a flame war.

Inherently it's not. How it was said determines the tone of the statement and treatment of the other person.

Some people say "jesus christ that is so awful you should kill yourself."
Some people say "Totally not my taste, but glad you like it."

One makes you look like a ****, and one retains dignity.

Now I get the anonymity factor, and a lot of people really just couldn't care less if anyone else on the internet thinks they're a ****. It's easy to pretend to be a sociopath on the internet. I also agree that the internet requires generally thicker skin than face-to-face encounters, and there are a lot of people who get offended way too easily, especially if they ask for an opinion and get the opposite of what they were seeking. I don't hesitate to post the "DO NOT WANT" images for things that I believe are awful. But if you wanna talk real world, then it goes back to the fact that, down deep, nobody likes the guy who's always being a ****.

I think anyone posting needs to remember that being a part of a forum is a privilege, not a right. There is no free speech. And you're going to be held accountable for what you say, whether you tried to go back and edit it or not, because once it's on the internet, it's there forever.
