Current dealer stock of all models is 1,504 or an 80 Days Supply. Total stock including dealer and port is 2,360 or 125 DS. Compared to their hottest seller, RAV4 Hybrid with dealer stock of 18 DS and total stock of 35 DS, they must be starting to sweat in Plano. I don't think any C8's have technically been sold yet, counting delivery as a sale. Lots of deposits though. |

Still don't get the whole comparison of a $49k Supra people will be able to walk out the door with at $45k to a $60k C8 that people will likely have to pay $75k-80k out the door for. Doesn't make much sense to me. Even at a magical vaporware $60k where somehow a dealer is willing to let GM eat $20k in losses and take nothing for itself, the C8 is still 33% more expensive than a Supra.

Maybe the launch frenzy has leveled off? Maybe the C8 is taking the spotlight of 'newest sports car?' Even the few financially blessed "i just bought the new Supra!" YouTube reviewers have mentioned they didn't pay any markups either. (But I'm sure they'd either get their ego slayed or flamed by their fans/subscribers if they did.) Regardless, word is out that GM is taking a loss with any C8 selling for under $80k, according to multiple online sources/articles. I doubt anyone has bought/ordered the "base" C8 for the infamous $59k price point. My guess would be a markup and/or spec'd up to $80k...if not more. I took a peek over at the Corvette forums and there's a lot of info on MSRP with and without markups, but most are deposits on orders still. (I didn't dig too much since the C8 doesn't appeal to me as much as the Supra.) Anyway, only time will when the fortunate few begin taking delivery and dish out their purchase experiences. |

There's a few showing on Cargurus with asking prices of $49K+. https://tinyurl.com/t2gp4fr I imagine prices will drop further in Feb/Mar especially in a snowbound multi dealer metro like Chicagoland. By then the C8 deliveries will start and the expected 2021 Supra reveal will depress 2020 prices more. Also, given the hefty port and dealer Supra stock far in excess of the normal Toyota inventory levels, Plano might put up buyer cashback and/or APR deals. Next year will be a Supra buyer's market. |

I don't know why anyone doubts that after a year or so and the hype dies down you'll be able to easily buy a C8 for $5k+ off sticker if you know where to shop. It's been that way since at least the C4 generation. Heck you buy a manual C7 for $45k right now and pretty much always been able to buy them in the low 50s. I'm not a huge C7 fan, but IMO its a step up from a Mk5 Supra. Chevy keeps the price low by cranking the volume up. I seriously doubt the BOM cost is that much different C7 to C8.
I think the Mk5 is a dud. All the bay area dealers here have several and most at sticker. Maybe it's the price point, but at least these cars had markup for almost a year when they came out. That was why I waited almost a year to buy mine. As someone who's owned Supras since the early 90's the Mk5 is just plain cold to me. If I wanted to buy a BMW there are plenty of dealers around to buy one. I buy Toyota mostly because they are reliable. |

Also, the MK4 would be nearly $80k today, adjusting for inflation. So, the MK5 is not a bad deal at all. Everything else is subjective though. It's all about preference. I personally prefer the MK5 Supra to the C8. While the C8 is a great car and great value, I've just never been a Corvette fan. But back in the 90's, I preferred the MR2, RX7 and 300ZX to the MK4 Supra actually. Plus, I'd rather have the new BMW/Toyota "Frankenstein" than a Chevy any day. A great BMW B58 engine with a Toyota warranty. Plus, while the styling isn't for everyone, at least Toyota was bold to try something new unlike the analogous BMW lineup. |

Wow, strong but legit opinion from an owner. I get it though, having been a MkIV owner. Is it the plain Jane interior layout, lack of upscale creature comforts or what? For me it's too much function over form, very BMW like, and would've liked a better dash layout but understand it costs a fortune to make those kinds of changes. Quote:

I personally wouldn't own a BMW based on personal experience, but have owned multiple GM and Toyota products, including a GM branded Toyota, and would actually buy a GM/Toyota sports car. Can you imagine if the Supra had been based on the C7 Corvette?

Having owned my Supra for about 5 months, I still love the car. I've done some performance mods (downpipe and tune) and gained 100whp and 80lb/ft over stock, and some visual mods (wrap, seibon hood), and honestly, the car gets just as much attention from people now as it did when I first purchased it. Only a few gripes, though. Comfort Access is intermittent (started before the wrap, probably remote battery), passenger seat cannot go nearly far enough back (per the wife), wind noise, and some squeaky buttons.

Was recently at my toyota dealer for service on my tundra and saw the new supra. I expected to be blown away. Sadly, I was not. Banged my head trying to get into the drivers seat. Once there, all I could see was the massive, bulbous hood. Turning to the side, I had to duck down to see out. The interior felt like a dark teutonic forest. Walking around it after sitting in it, all I could notice were the fake vents and lumpy styling. Its not a flowing organic shape but a too many used bars of soap smushed together thing.

I couldn't believe how small the cabin felt. I can get use to it, but what I can't get use to is the leather seats with hardly any bolster support.
On a side note, new cars should come with an option for sports seats with aggressive bolstering made with some kind of cloth, alcantara, mesh, etc. Modern cars have airbags and electronics tied in to the seats which make swapping to Recaro SPG i.e. seats impossible without all the warning lights, air bags not working... etc. |
