The FR-S works as the only car for me as a single dad with one child. But yes, normally you'll need something bigger.

please qualify these statements as "for my needs"

my wife can fit comfortably behind me while i'm comfortably set in the drivers seat.

the mini is even bigger in the back.

by no means is the FRS an impractical car just because you and your family happen to large examples of the human species.

i'm 5'11 @ 160lb, shes 5'3 @ something really light. I plan this to be my daily driver for the next decade or so. It can't haul refrigerators but ohh well.

I'm curious why people don't just get a cheap second vehicle-- thus relieving the practicality requirement from the FRS.

For example, i bought a GMC Safari AWD for $1,500. It's great-- it's got a million seats, arm rests, space, and runs just fine. It's perfect. This way i don't have do drive a gutted Celica as a DD.

because not everyone has driveway that can fit more than 1 car and

because not everyone can afford insurance on two vehicles

Having 3 cars in my case would be a hassle.

What's the point? Oh hey look at my stable of $#$%y cars!?

Much like the OP the FRS/BRZ will be much too small of a car for a growing family.

Sure some will and can make it work but it doesn't mean it's optimal.

I personally have, and will have circumstances that others won't and that's why it would have been foolish for me, ultimately, to get a FRS/BRZ.

---

More than 3 cars wasn't really an option...

If I had 3+ cars I'd have to jockey around cars, pay insurance, and DD a beater, when I really want to DD the good car.

Sure I might get a project car for the future (a miata or AP1) but it would be a cheap weekend car; the FRS/BRZ, especially new has to be DD or else it would be a waste.

My solution: WRX

Pros and cons of the FRS's seats. This is a very good discussion. I was waiting for the opinions to favor one side but everybody has a valid point.

Nobody is right or wrong. It all goes down to each individual's lifestyle and preference.
