Morimoto HID in OEM Housing?

Anyone running Morimoto HID's or any other HID kits out there on their OEM Housing? Is it as bad as people say? I'm not trying to be the asshole that's blinding everyone else on the road so I'll be aiming it a bit lower.

For those who are running HID's in stock housing: how do you like it? I'm currently using LED's and they're better than the halogens, but I still cannot really illuminate more than 40 feet in front of me on a completely dark road. I hit a dead raccoon on the street earlier because I couldn't see it with my LED's poor illumination.

I've use it in OEM housing before and it's not that bad. What IS bad is running it in reflector housings like most cars do. The light is scattered in those.

In OEM at least you have projectors to control it somewhat.

I run Acura HID's (from an old project) that are retrofitted into my OEM 2013 FR-S Highbeams. I think they look great. When Shining on the side of my shop, the beams look even. My low beams are stock.

The acura HIDs are 35 watt. Same as the OEM highs. The ballast plugs were even the same! I could not believe it. I had to modify the lights though.

I have a kit on mine as well, and think its fantastic, there is a very visible cut-off line, and I can see better. I am using some old 35w ballasts and xenatech bulbs. lol cheap ftw!

Putting HID's in Halogen projectors is only going to improve the lighting. It wont be as good as projectors specifically designed for HIDs.

You still still have a usable cut off that won't cause glare to oncoming though.

I've been retrofitting headlights since 2004 and can help if you have any questions. I have a thread specific for that in this category!

Even the best LEDs aren't even close to HIDs.

Most halogens max out at ~1700 lumens
Morimoto's best LEDs output 2400 lumens
Even cheap xenon bulbs typically do 3400 lumens.

Try the xenons in the OEM housings, my bet is you'll be pleased.
