Sounds like they gave you a sales pitch, rather than data.
Did I say they recommended using it at 300F? No. It was tested to that point without the oil itself breaking down. I said they say ideal temp is 212.

Reading comprehension can be your friend.

In hindsight this may have been the wrong thread to post this in considering. :p

With that said this kit uses high end components and should put a decent dent in the oil temps (track testing to come to back that up).

If one of you guys would like to work with us to develop a HD track-ready cooler I'm up for it and can give you guys everything for our cost in exchange for testing. Just let me know.
Two of us with 13 row setrabs were seeing 260+ oil after 3-4 hot laps at which point we had to do cool down laps. This is in 100-110 deg ambient temp and turbocharged.

100-110 degrees and a turbo is hell on oil regardless so I'm guessing there was an improvement with the 13 row. Do you have a data before the cooler? Give us some time and we'll come up with a solution for you guys. Only question is how big of a core can we fit someplace where it'll get air.

Water vapor is a by-product of combustion, so it gets into the oil from the blowby.

So get an oil cooler, but get one that includes a thermostat.
Or use a Mocal laminova core cooled by engine coolant. Heats the oil faster on cold days and never cools below coolant temp. Only down side is you need enough radiator to handle the additional thermal load.

Two of us tried the standard mocal 7" laminova and it performed worse than the 13 row setrab. Temps would increase rapidly when getting on it with no cap in sight.

If we didn't have the 13 row temps would have been in the 300's. We have seen that before on the same track in similar/cooler weather.

Still, 260 is too hot. a 20 row setrab would work I am sure but you are blocking the radiator and coolant might get even more out of control (we were seeing 230F coolant that same day and the stock coolant needle was definitely climbing).

Agreed, that's the trade off with front mount stuff. If you throw an oil cooler in there that blocks the radiator you might be no better off or have to upgrade your coolant system to make up for it.

The other option is mounting it behind one of the fog light mounts and build some ducting to go to a cooler back there. The question is just how big of a cooler can you fit back there.

You just can't get enough airflow there, and the wheel well is a high pressure zone, so the net airflow is rather low. Without some creative (exit) ducting, the front bumper opening is still the best spot.

For reference, the Greddy oil cooler works exceptionally well, but it's by far the most expensive kit I've seen on the market, with a retail of $1200.
@sw20kosh: We got the temps rock solid stabile, finally, on @ImperiousRex's car. I don't think we've ever seen over 235F, even in 110F ambient weather.
@Maximal: the car in question with the Greddy oil cooler also has a Greddy turbo kit, which just COOKS oil.

The Jackson Racing oil cooler setup that we use on our car uses a 9 series 15 row Setrab core, which offers slight more cooling capacity than a 6 series 19 row cooler.

If $$ is not a problem, then get two type 1 Setrabs (SET-113-7612) and put one behind each fog light. Then you have one hose run across in front of the radiator.

Good to hear!

What do you think allows the greddy unit to enjoy so much success? Is there anywhere I can read up on the details of what you guys did for his setup cooling wise?

I think this is the first public post made about the latest cooling modifications on the car... here's a sneak preview until Ted makes a post.
