Schroth ASM

Anybody installed an ASM harness with stock seats? Which one? Where did you attach the tailstrap?

It looks like either Rallye 3 or Rallye 4 ASM would be perfect to retain use of the stock 3 point harness, and to be able to disconnect a tailstrap if rear seat needs to be used.

Looks like I should be able to use a HANS head and neck restraint device with this type of harness, right?

I have a Rallye 3 installed, the Rallye 4 won't work in our cars since there aren't really two spots in the right place to bolt it to in the rear. I have the rear mount on the 3 bolted where the rear seatbelt retainer mounts. There is a DIY on here from someone else on installing the Rallye 3 which is very useful.

You can certainly still use the regular belts with it. Not sure about HANS though, I thought those really needed the right kind of seat to be effective and our stock seats certainly aren't it.

Even with the anti-submarine features on the schroth 4-point harnesses you won't find many people recommend using them on the track. Especially without a harness bar.

I have a Rallye4, the shoulder straps are attached to the lap points for the rear seatbelt, and the lap belts are attached to the standard front seat attach points for the standard 3-pt belt. I use it for autocross only, wouldn't dream of using it on the track or driving around, even though it's "DOT approved".

Thanks for your feedback. Does anybody think that a rallye 4 mounted in the rear to the lap points with a HANS device would be less safe than a standard 3 point with R3 device in case of an accident on track during HPDE?

I also only use mine for autocross, I just use the stock belts for track days. The angle with them mounted to the lap points would definitely not work for most track people.

I think it's less safe.

You would be wise to consult with the people at HMS Motorsports that build and sell Schroth harnesses. They can answer all of your questions and maybe questions you didn't know you needed to ask. That was my experience when I went to them for six-point harnesses.

Is that because it would be at around or more than 45 degrees from horizontal that Schroth says should not be exceeded or for some other reason? Would it be safer than a stock 3 point if rear strap is mounted at a higher location? Anybody has a picture of a higher mounting point that could be used?

I have no expertise in this...it somehow seems that, if submarining is addressed by the solution, then distributing impact forces between two shoulders (Schroth rallye) would be better than across one (3 point).

Those of you who already invested time researching this, or simply know the answers, please advise how to improve safety using harness, HANS or R3 type device or anything else short of adding a roll bar or harness bar.

I am running the Schroth Profi II ASM 4 point (FIA cert belts) with a Agency Power 4 point harness bar that mounts to factory seat belt mounting points, I love the setup. @ATL BRZ is also going to be running a similar, if not the same, setup.

This setup was recommended to my by HMS Motorsport; the Profi II must be run with a proper harness bar in order to have the correct belt angles.

Thank you @smbstyle, this is exactly what I would do if I wanted to convert from a primarily street driven but track friendly car to more of a track-oriented car...but for now I need the space with folded seats to keep it useful enough as a daily. Also want to be able to load up wheels with track tires and other bits to the track.

For now, I am looking at the CG-Lock with the stock 3 point belt, and I would like to find a better head and neck restraint solution than a neck support ring that I already have...saga continues...

Forgot to update this - my research concluded that a 4-point harness without a proper harness bar could be dangerous, since mounting locations for the rear piece don't fall within max 15 degrees down from the shoulder height, per Schroth guidelines. Didn't want to take the risk and like usable and folding rear seats (so no harness bar)...ended up buying Simpson R3 brace and helmet with tethers that attach to R3, and using only the stock 3-point harness.
