Thanks. I did this and it worked. No more rattle and clicking.

^^I admire the elegance of this solution. It's clean, simple, dirt cheap, and completely reversible.

The TSB for rear-deck popping issue didn't work on my car, so the dealer/service dept did this to fix the issue.

Now I need to buy some spray paint to keep the rust off. I should have tried the suggestions on this thread before getting the warranty work done. Too late now.

Found rattle in ceiling area and I was able to solve

There is an area in the roof, where there are two spot welds right above thedriver side. Locating this was very difficult. It was only after I exhaustedevery possibility that I was able to find this. I literally had the back seatdown to the metal.

This spot was very deceptive; I thought it was in the trunk, or the air bagfasteners. Needless to say it wasneither of these issues. I also triedcenter punching the spot welds in the trunk, and taping down the fasteners inthe trunk below the spare tire.

If you remove the top ceiling (there are three plastic fasteners that holdthe ceiling in place). And you removethe side panel on the driver’s side you will see a dip in the metal directlyabove the driver side (right behind the sensor). If you put a little pressure on this spot therattle stops.

I took a piece of a rubber door stop and wedged it in, and this correctedthe rattle. I will be posting picturessoon.

I hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for this. First experienced a ticking/clicking sound 3 months ago -- fixed by opening and closing the rear seatback. Experienced a similar noise again at the end of a 3k mile trip through twisties. This time opening/closing the seatback did not help, indeed if anything the sound got worse. After reading this thread, I tried a glass coaster-like solution. It worked in that 90% of the sound is gone. Reversibility is key to me.

Will experiment with variations in the next 2-3 weeks and hope to get 100% solved.

Only issue I've had with my car.

WTF!!!!

Send this to Subaru and get some sort of compensation. No way they should have done that to a brand new car.

I brought mine in yesterday and they fixed the rattle for me using the TSB, but reading this thread makes me worry it might come back. We shall see. For the moment I am a happy camper, this noise was driving me bananas.

That's appalling. I don't think of this as a "grey area" f*ck *p. This is a solidly in the Red Zone f*ck *p.

Why do you need to buy some spray paint?! Surely the cack-handed dealer that did such an appalling job in the first place should be doing the touch-up... At least...!!!

Took the ride into the dealer today for the third time to fix this issue. It looks like they finally found it... so far no clunk. The pics show where the noise was coming from. It's the drivers side of the trunk. You can also see where they used a hammer drill to tap the welds. Hope this helps.

Unbelievable... taking a hammer and whatever else to pound on the area and break the paint. This should be brought to the attention of the Regional Service Manager... completely unacceptable "service".
