DIY oil cooler mounting.

I know plenty of people have done DIY oil cooler installs without using a kit. I'm wondering if anyone has any pictures or general advise for mounting the oil cooler without the pre-made brackets. I don't imagine it will be too terribly difficult but it would be nice to see what others have done and what has worked or hasn't worked. Has anyone tried any ducting to increase airflow through the cooler?

I had a custom one done. It sat behind the passenger side fog light. Held in place to the bumper beam, very similar to the FBM location. Did not duct it. If I can find a picture I'll attach it later.

I'm definitely going in front of the radiator for this one. It will be mounted on the plastic tray thing. I'm mostly curious how is good to month it on that and how much to brace it on the bumper. I've seen a couple examples but none that made me feel really onfident that was the way to do it.

Problem with that plastic tray is that it's hardly reinforced but in a place where it could be damaged if you run over something. Attaching a hot lubricant line and radiator directly to that could result in a dry engine if the plastic tray (and the attached radiator) gets torn off. Makes people nervous. I'd look for another location and a metal bracket that attaches your oil cooler radiator to a hardpoint or protected area and not just the plastic tray.

I can't manipulate images from work but if you go to this post one can see how I mounted mine. I specifically didn't want it mounted to the plastic part. I used rivnuts in the bumper beam.

You gave me an idea for a "V" mount

That looks really good. I like the idea of mounting it to the bumper for stability. I'd have to mount it a little lower though because I'm determined to use 45* fittings rather than 90's.

No kit. Mine is a huge one-off. 72-row series-1 Setrab mounted directly to the cooler stack. It works as designed but took some doing. It's not plug-and-play by a long shot.
