Sitha,

your digging this hole way deeper than it needs to be. take what bob said to heart. Clearly you have 0 clues on how difficult a swap will be. with a new engine comes new transmission so instead of rapid posting your plans might want to do some research on it before you do stuff. Also your AT so that means you will need an AT 2JZ unless you want to do a full manual conversion which takes ALOT of time and money. so that means NO you cannot use your paddle shifters.......

I already said I am at fault for being an idiot. I honestly don't care for bashing because I honestly deserve it, and if it was someone else I would join the party.

Okay guys, so heres update if anyone gives a flying fuck.
Here are my options.

1) I lost my car
2) Car is hard parked in my garage until I can afford a new engine
3) I get a 1jz engine in it over FA20 from dealership.

I went to look at a 1jz engine and 2jz engine, both front clips with everything still intact. Transmission, engine and electrical wiring. (Dont worry I went with a buddy that knows cars way better than me)

My car may very well turn to a full project car, no excuses for it now. Unless I just want to get rid of my car, which is not going to happen to all the haters out there.

My only thoughts on this is that the 1jz will fit better than the 2jz after examining the two engines.

1jz front clip is at 2700
2jz front clip is at 3000

A) My only question from here is what about the drive shaft?
B) Will it drive properly, and will I still be able to use the paddle shifters?
C) Will a 1jz or 2jz fit properly, if not what are the fabrications to be needed?
(we all know a 2jz will fit, hence my thread that made front page with the drifting video of Fredic Aasbo)
D) If I do decide on the 1jz (which is the one I am leaning most forward too) where can I take my car too, to swap it in properly and what will the cost be?
E) What other parts am I going to need to make this work properly?

If any tuners, or anyone else out there will knowledge of swapping these engines in, please give me suggestions.

If everything works out my way I may be looking at a 1jz or 2jz in the near future.

I am for one not going to take this as a lost, no matter what a majority of the forum are telling me to do. I will fucking park this bitch in my mama's and daddy's garage. Until further notice. If things do go wrong.

not sure an engine swap is the thing to do...its going to cost upwards of 10 grand all said and done...you will need to redo basically the entire drivetrain.

It would be cheaper to just sell the shell of the FRS at this point and buy a 1jz or 2jz car you will be in way more than needed by trying to swap engines...

An engine swap will require more maintenance than the stock setup did...you are going from a modern engine to a much less modern engine. I guess you can do whatever you want, but having worked on my BRZ and several other cars in my 23 years of life the BRZ is one of the easiest to work on without fucking things up.

if you can't get it right on this not sure you should try your hand at a much more complicated setup.

But then again it is up to you...people aren't being haters, they are being realist the people that swapped in 2jz blew their engines by pushing them to the limits not by running the engine with no oil in it.

Good luck whatever route you take but if it was me personally i would pay the 5k to get a stock engine back in it and drop it the 10k+ just isn't worth it to be a daily driver and not a track monster

Help from them is fine. I will never deny help from my parents, no matter my age. Depending on them is a whole different story. Usually the people that say stuff like this either never had help from their parents, or are just being rude/ignorant.

I see it this way: parents have their own issues, things that they are going through, life to deal with...why should a grown man ask their parents for help...it should be visa versa...they raised you for 18 years...
And people who take it an extra step: living in their house (squatting), getting free cars from them, money, etc etc...that's just pathetic.

But you're right...help is help...

This is coming from someone who has been on his own since the age of 17, paying for HIS own stuff. With hard work. I put myself through school/college, purchased my own cars. I'm well-rounded. And now I help both my parents out.

I don't want to be a jackass/sound like one either. And I clearly do not want to offend anyone.

Oh boy, well I guess it was inevitable for me to date myself eventually so here goes...

I have been working on cars for almost 25 years and performed my first engine swap back in 1992 which was a 400hp 351 Cleveland that shoe-horned into a 2.3L 1981 Mustang GL. I have done several swaps since (both import and domestic) and I am currently working on a 1971 Ford Torino that is getting its 302 automatic changed out for a 460 4-speed so decide for yourself if I know what I am talking about or not.

(If Drift Office chimes in here I would SERIOUSLY listen to them!!)

First rule of thumb on engine swaps in ANY car. Figure out how much it will cost and then TRIPLE IT! Figure out how long it will take and QUADRUPLE THAT!! And those rules of thumb are for people that know what they are doing which you do not. I applaud your willingness to learn but such an ambitious project is no place for a newbie.

Just off the top of my head... To have that engine placed in your car properly will require at a minimum.

- Engine
- Custom wiring harness
- ECU and professional tuning
- Custom fabricated oil pan
- Custom fabricated headers
- Custom fabricated exhaust
- Custom fabricated engine mounts
- Custom fabricated transmission mounts
- Custom fabricated driveshaft
- Transmission (and no, unless you're buying a very new AOT, your paddles will not work)
- Custom fabricated EVERYTHING for the transmission.
- Custom fabricated cooling system
- Custom fabricated intake system
- Custom fabricated turbine plumbing
- Custom fabricated intercooler
- Brakes
- Springs
- Chassis modification (floor pan)

I know for a fact that this list is in actuality MUCH longer but this is just off the top of my head.

Take my advice son... sell the car and cut your losses or have someone professionally replace your engine with another FA20 if you can afford it. Don't try it yourself.

I'm still a kid at heart...spend money stupidly...and live like there may be no tomorrow...but I do it all relying on myself not my parents

Agree on the part about taking advantage of them. If he is taking advantage of their help, then that's stupid, which it sounds like he is.

we are just exploring options here dion,
be a little supportive.

yeah my parents help me, it's cause I lost a hell of a good job, why? cause I am an idiot. a duh

they may help or may not. LIKE I SAID, if worst comes to worst, my car will be sitting in garage until I can afford a new motor.

as of right now I am, I'm not going to take it as a lost.
honestly, I can't lmfao.

did I mention I'm 22 and a college student?
yeah my parents pay for my car, but they don't pay for my student loans.
so, a little help for another 4-5 months until I graduate will be fine.
because for hell, they didnt help support me from 18-22 if thats what your thinking, and NO they did not buy me my FRS, I actually had $ and downpayment for it. And NO I dont go begging mommy and daddy for money, but right now I am.

I currently work 2 jobs, I am actually making more money then I did when I had my (GOOD) job. I just need to save and quit living that yolo life.

As of right now, those are my options. If anyone wants to be apart of it, your more then welcome to ride. If your just going to hate it on. I get just like DGK; I love haters <3

This is where I was 5 months ago when I had my own office.
Time's are just hard and I found myself in a hole, my parents are just helping me (for now)
It should be understandable since I bet more then a few on this forum has needed help from their parents 1 time or 2 times after another. Unless you got bad family dynamics. I'm just fortunate to come from a healthy family.

My mom and dad are fucking pissed as hell, and they do not got money to throw away. So I will have to pay them back after I graduate this summer.

Why are people quick to judge? None of you guys even know me personally.

No I am not taking advantage of my parents because they have not yet agreed to this.
