I believe the red prototype was actually a silver one repainted for the show. Maybe that is the overspray?

Look at some of the promo photos; the engine bay and door frames are silver.

This profile looks amazing. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...9&d=1325440292 This looks good. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...7&d=1325440292 This looks freaking weird. Am I the only person that thinks these three pictures are of three different cars? |

Not sure if it is the same car. I think I see Toyota cowboy hats on the wheel center caps, and clear side marker. The paint looks metallic as well.
Here's the closest thing I had to a side shot: Heh. Side shot of Joel's belly, anyway But yeah, bad lighting conditions and my cell phone camera make all the difference in the world, as opposed to studio lighting, a real camera, and Photoshop. Which version do you think your real-life car in everyday real-life conditions will look like? Don't kid yourselves... |

It is either missing the rubberized wheel well spray OR it's missing the plastic wheel well lining.
One of either really is needed for the longevity of the car!!! Even if at the sacrifice of some weight savings! p.s. those center caps are definitely SCION!

Not really that surprising. Toyota/Scion/Subaru are marketing the FT86 as a light weight rear wheel drive sports car with great handling. The MRS is the definition of that formula. To us, approximately 2700LBs curb weight is not all that light weight considering that the MRS weighs in at around 2200LBs. The FR-S/BRZ have 200HP but a lot of MRS owners have the 2ZZ engines in them with 180-190HP and even at the stock 138HP the light weight makes the car competitive against cars with a lot more power. We all (well many of us) want to love the FR-S but the price tag will be the make it/break it factor. Yeah, I know the MRS has no luggage room and no back seats but seriously, it is a sports car. Who cares? Does anyone really think you can fit a real live person in the back of the FR-S in anything other than emergency conditions? I am heading to Detroit in a little over two weeks to see this car and I will be making my decision on future ownership based on seeing it first hand and the price which I hope they will announce during the show. |

The chief engineers' FB pic with what I think is photochopped 5Axis custom red is the GT86!
And there is LOTS of photo editing in that dramatic shot! The red one at the dealer is definitely all Scion badging!

And a few minutes of purposefully bad Photoshop work with my crap picture yields: If there's decent lighting, I'll go ahead and get down on the ground for an exciting low shot, and take my real camera, when I go back to see it again. But yeah, that pic we're comparing to was heavily photoshopped, in addition to the better lighting and low angle. |
