On a Tahoe, sure. It is necessary as most people don't have garages designed for such a larger vehicle.
For the most part it's not an issue, but in my garage, I would definitely appreciate folding mirrors.

I guess I'm hesitant to see the complexity and cost added into the price of the car. I'd sooner ask for some performance goodies. As a stand-alone option from the factory, no worries.

Obviously things like rear vents on the BRZ aren't practical....but I don't understand no auto folding mirrors.

I'd love a new Crosstrek as a beater car...but can't get over the US doesn't have dual climate control option. Also looking at new Forester for my wife to drive with our new child as I'm taking her 2020 outback touring XT. But of course.... Forrester doesn't have auto folding mirrors or auto up/down windows in the rear. Boggles my mind
Lulz sounds like you need a different car. Possibly a... BMW.

There is no denying that they are nice. I just feel they are unnecessary in a car of this price point and purpose. Though I'd still like a sunroof. Saying they are a must is saying you want something else.

They are nice, but for this style of car? Unnecessary in my opinion. Just more things that break and add weight. Also, I personally do not like sunroofs. They always end up breaking in my experience.

All of the mounting points should be identical. Or at least, as others point out, they appear to be the same given the speaker location hasn't changed. But last gen had 8 speakers standard on all cars, so I don't think it is clear if the car is pre-wired for the amp in the trunk and the 2 speakers you lose on top of the dash. Something tells me no. Why would they spend the time and money on that? That would also incentivize owners to spend more for the upper trim. But I could be wrong.

Beyond that, I don't think we know about ports and connections.
Unfortunately this doesn't show the dash speaker setup, which is one of the things I'm curious about. However, it does show the amp is now on the right side of the car instead of the left, so that's an interesting change. I guess the new head unit is enough to power the 6 speaker system, just not the upgraded 8 speaker system?

That would suck if the Premium doesn't have an amp at all, because that probably means it doesn't have wiring run for said amp, and would be more difficult to tap into the stock system for adding aftermarket stuff. I have a wiring harness left over from my last BRZ. Would be really cool if I could reuse that. I guess we'll see.

In all probability all the models will be wired exactly alike same as the first gen. For example all cars had harnesses installed for the fog lights even if they didn't use them and some of the 2020 models even had the wiring and amps installed and then bypassed at the dealer level. It is a manufacturing standardization thing where it is actually cheaper for them to install parts that are not used than to add more complex operations to the assembly line.
Now the question of if the wiring installed would be robust enough for aftermarket equipment would apply but the stuff should at least be there.

+1, my Boxster clears the garage door with a couple of inches per side, but I ordered it with as few options as possible (weight, cost, etc.); looking online the BRZ is barely narrower.

As for audio, neither one of us are audiophiles; I'll have to wait and see (er, hear) and at most upgrade some speakers.

The audio is 'ok I guess' but not good. Missing lots of midrange and all the bass. Sounds the opposite of rich lol. I am sure it won't surprise anyone that it is a big step down from the GTI's Panasonic (Fender branded) speakers.

I am definitely going to be getting a sub. I don't think I will take the trouble to replace the actual speakers but I would understand why if someone else did. My hope is that an 8" or 10" sub will bring it to "good enough".

Do you have the Limited or the Premium.

Will do. There was talk about an optional factory sub a while back, that's going to be my first choice if it makes an appearance any time soon.
