I've been driving my MR2 instead... with summer tires still on it. When it gets snowy I simply work from home those days. Guarantee nobody hits me then.

But yes, please get some Blizzaks on some steelies or stock set if you're DD'ing your car. Well worth the investment.

Gravel.. That's around Portland year round. Ice chunks.. Haven't really seen any. Portland is extremely mild with regards to winter conditions. Drive year round, no problems.

I'm going to look into some blizzaks, sadly, I cant even get my car down my driveway right now to go put tires on it. I waited too long. Going to put the Billzacks on the stock rims and get my 17 or 18" STI rims for summer.

Saw a huge chunk of ice in the middle of the road down around Tuckwila / 405.
It was shaped like the fenderwell of an 18 wheeler that must have come over the pass today.

We need more 'lerts.

Semi trucks brings the gravel from the mountain passes. Clearly you haven't followed a truck/RV that came out of BFE covered in snow/ice that slowly disintegrates in front of you on the free way.

As much as I love snow tires, it doesn't get snowy enough here in Wichita to justify them so I opted for a set of A/S3s this year. You can get around in the snow (even if it isn't fun) but they are much more bearable the rest of the time than snow tires.

Any more though I don't want to drive my car in the winter because of the ridiculous amount of salt they put on the roads here.

Last week here in CO we had black ice covered with fresh snow.

I had never had the BRZ out in the snow, so I just wanted to see how it acted with the primacy's.
I did not even make it around the block before putting it back in the driveway.

The entire time the car was freaking out: ABS, VSC, Traction control all going crazy.
I was taking it very carefully and the dash was lighting up like a christmas tree.

When I got it back and got out of the car you could SMELL the brakes and TCS from it working it's ass off.

So these cars do not like ice without the proper snow tires. The systems just do not know how to respond.
I could have driven circles around it in my Solara with TCS & all season GY-assurances.

Got my car onto a curb on jblm going 5 mph the brakes weren't responding and the TC was going crazy. When I tried to press on the brakes the brakes locked up but managed to get the car sideways instead of hitting it head on. A bad way to start my day, ended up with a possible broken axle steering wheel would not turn at all.

I drove to work on stock tires today in very little snow. Tires still spin at heavier throttle off the line and in turns. I putted to work safely however. (I only live 5 mi from work). The tire shop didn't remount/refill my winter tires with air onto my stock wheels after they swapped the TPMS out in the spring. I'll have to go do this on my day off!
