Backfiring tune for a daily driver
What I want to accomplish is a backfiring tune that does not rely on POL fueling or the ignition advance maps to backfire. We have all probably seen the other thread where a guy figured out that he could retard timing at low loads on the ignition advance table and run a rich afr at low loads using the primary open loop fueling table.
This results in a nice backfiring effect when the revs are dropping and you simply put the weight of your foot on the pedal. I assume that is because the throttle must be pressed at least to >0% to get the plugs sparking again. Or is it just that the fuel is completely cut when the revs are dropping? Any help or insight is appreciated. I know this is all just an effort to look cooler. lol A side effect of the tune is that when just cruising, the load drops to .15-.2 sometimes and causes jerkiness when the load comes back up. This is the primary reason I want to avoid using the above method to get the desired pops and burbles. Also should I worry about fouling my plugs running a temporarily extremely rich afr and retarded timing?

Don't apply it over the entire rev range. When I was messing around with it I would only run from redline down to about 3500.

That's a good way to work around, as most cruising is below 3.5k. However, I want my backfires below 3.5k! Try harder!

I am definitely open to hear any other way to do this. My only previous idea would be to rescale the lower portion of the table to create a very small engine load range that would create the rich environment. That or determine why the table requires some kind of pedal input.

you have to learn to drive around that load range to avoid the jerking but it takes practice and yes it can be annoying. easiest solution is to go ecutek and use the rom switching feature with the cruise control to run different maps

Mine does it. It also shoots flames that are visible at night. It's not all the time. It will do it when the engine is cold and I step on it a little too hard before it is all the way warmed up. Occasionally when I let off the gas at high speed.

If you are on budget, go with ALS (Anti-Lag-System).
The backfire come with nice bang-bang |

I ran a map on my OFT for backfires and it ruined my exhaust. I suggest that you pass on this one. Just my .02
