I forgot to mention when ordering off ebay be careful bc a lot of blank fobs ship out of hong kong and china. nothing wrong with buying from them except shipping can take 2-3 weeks.

yup, i ended up buy the 20 dollar one cause it was shipped from cali. I found some for 10 bucks but they're from china.

would have been easier to get the original keyfob cut right at the dealership and im sure they can program the chip in the rav4 keyfob to work with the frs

yes you can, but it's gonna cost a lot more then twenty bucks for the fob and a 4 dollar key cut at wal-mart.

we're talking a C-note at best.

the local Home depot in my area did mine for free! Apparently they dont charge if I bring your own key in !

when i talked to the dealership you have to get a frs key. theres only 19 in the world....well 18 now. i got a spare after i done this mod.

it was $269 for the key and $106 for the programming. after taxes and misc shop charges the total for my new spare key was $400.

That doesn't make any sense. The reason you were able to do this mod is because the FRS key is the exact same as the Rav4 and Corolla key (from 2009 on up).

my guess is the chip might be different ie operating on a different freq or something

Is that for a stock spare key?
