He replied in a snickering voice "what for?" Almost like he was trying to get it out of me. I know the head tech I may just bring him a 6pack to do it. The service department is notoriously horrible at my local dealer. I'll try my best not to lose my shit when I go.
Good luck and let us know how it works out. I have been known to give my service manager gift cards from time to time during the holidays....

Just called Morrie's Brooklyn Park Subaru and had the Service Advisor look up all the bulletins for the BRZ. Make sure you ask for bulletins and not recalls.

The closest thing to a engine idle issue was a bulletin released in April 2013 and revised in June 2013. From what I could tell over the phone, the bulletin didn't specifically discuss a Direct Injection issue. It was more of a generic idle issue across all the Subaru cars. It talked about replacing shims in the valves or something.

It sounds like this update hasn't been published yet on Subaru of America's end.

Well that sucks. It seems odd that cars manufactured in 2013 have an updated calibration that dealers seem clueless about for 2012 produced cars.. Obviously there have been fixes and modifications.. Did you mention the calibration file to see if there was any way to reflash to it?

I didn't, but it doesn't sound like he'd be familiar with it unless it was in a bulletin.

I wonder if Toyota has anything published on their end yet.

The only formal thing I have seen is that South African memo doc, but it does list the correct calibration file in it.

Just got back from the dealer. Spoke to the master tech directly (whom I've known for a few years) the only reflash available for the car was the themostat recall, which I already had done. I asked about any recalibrations, I even showed him the new software calibration number. It wasn't in his computer. The good news is we bullshitted for a little bit and I was reassured that if something where to happen to my engine that it would be covered. (He knows what I do with it)

Take that with a grain of salt. The dealer in question here wanted to cover Mike's cat failure (not sure if they commented on the engine portion), but SOA's corporate rep declined the claim.

So can anyone confirm there has been a software update for North America? If so, why would they silently update with no TSB since the change was midyear?

I am sitting here in my car right now with the mini-VCI cable hooked up
running techstream. I ran a system health check on the engine.
It shows the ZA1JA01C for the ECU calibration. I have a FEB 13 build

We know that cars produced at least from Feb 2013 and on should have the software update. The issue is getting the update on a car that does not have the update. There is more in this thread:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...=40951&page=18

Start reading around page 18 or so.

Looks like that confirms @thill's hypothesis. Thank you for checking.

Now to get SoA to update the older cars with this file...

That is two that have confirmed it now on a Feb build

I think it is safe to say from Feb and on you should be good.

We have a local MN BRZ owner that has the Tech Stream device. I'm going to see if he can help us determine ours.
