If you guys wanted to buy this. For either the Auto AC or manual AC. How much do you guys think something like that would cost?

On the Auto AC there is cabus cables going into the connectors. So alot of factory data can be pulled into the screen.

My expectations aren't that high, as for what I'd like it to do. I'm a realist so I'm not expecting it to do absolutely everything. However, I'd like the ability to tune/datalog my car and my DSP, as well as control HVAC (I have manual). The trim pieces are listed on their website with approximate costs (~$350). Add in a tablet (~$300) and misc install pieces and you're near $800. For non-auto climate control people it'll be a few more $, probably pushing over $1K.

It's not for everyone, and I'm skeptical it'll come to fruition for all my wants, but it's another option for us to consider.

My expectations are a sub-$1K, user expandible experience that looks premium and surpasses the "aftermarket" look of most head units. It's basically a high-end, high resolution, large Android Head unit...with a truly "built for your car" capability which can be scaled to multiple vehicles.

Hmm so that high-end experience. Something that meant to look premium. I always liked that tesla looking screen experience. Funny thing too. The Dual AC cars also have canbus connected on the same connector. That means it has access to the factory OEM data floating around the Bus. But you can also have access to OBD2 style info too. I always thought of adding animations like a custom 3D BRZ with opening closing doors. To be able to skin it with your Cars color idk.

This is cool looking and the ability to be able to put gauges on there reading the canbus line is great, but how does it replace a stereo? You either run everything off of a usb stick or if you want Pandora or XM you have to have your phone create a wifi hotspot that the tablet logs on to? And then your sound quality is limited to the 1/8" jack output of a tablet.

Basically, yeah...same data usage as using Waze, Pandora, etc via Bluetooth on any phone. Downside is loss of the tuner and/or XM via direct antenna or satellite...but I'm sure there are ways to ensure this is retained, as well. This is basically the "turn a tablet into your infotainment system" with more structure.

I'll have to defer to other people who are more knowledgeable about audio; however, there are plenty of high quality sound systems that use the 3.5mm jack for sound.

Hmm, this seems interesting in concept, but in practice after reading their FAQ and watching the video it seems pretty janky. Looks cool, but a lot of basic functionality of a modern head unit is impossible or very painful to get working using an Android tablet.
