So back to the dealer and they say "Parts are in stock, give us a few hours." I was expecting the TRD suspension to be stiffer but that doesn't seem to be the case. If anything, it seems to track surface irregularities more precisely with very little "aftershock". For me, it's a little hard translate what I experience to "shake itself to pieces". If somebody else who's driven stock vs TRD suspension on the same car have different experience, please come forward and share.
My car is stock. I've just heard that the TRD suspension is stiffer than stock, and it makes sense to me that it would be. Maybe the car OP drove had a bad alignment or something that made it shake?

As for TRD exhaust, I've always had it. My dad wanted to try out a stock automatic BRZ and asked me to tag along. I don't understand what the big deal with noise level is. And in the bigger scheme of things, TRD is quite far from being the loudest. There is a white BRZ around where I live that is seriously loud. And it cracks like crazy when backing off on the gas. Also, I was once at a traffic light. Another 86 (same color) pulled up right behind and started rev'ing like hell. As we got started on green, I could hear the guy loud and clear from back there. From the outside, the guy got to be way loud. Highly doubtful he's TRD exhaust.
Again, my car is stock so I'm not sure exactly how the TRD exhaust compares to stock noise wise, but I know its louder than stock. Some people want a loud exhaust so it makes people think the car is fast even when it isnt. That's why all the high school kids put huge fart cans on their base Civic lol.

My car has the TRD exhaust it is louder yes but not even close to fart cans compared to some aftermarket. The fact it retains the cats keeps it mellow. It isn't really the volume of the TRD that is the main feature it is the much deeper tone. It is how the car should sound.

Loud exhaust may or may not make your car go faster, but it sure as hell will make the thing in the next lane go faster. One little tap and that Fiat 500 Abarth rev'ing like hell beside you will go flying on green light

I my mind, one needs to be on edge quite a bit to go fast on a track. On the other hand, quiet/comfort and being on edge don't seem to go hand in hand. If I were to try using a car platform to bring the two sides together, I'd skip the BRZ/FRS/86/Civic nonsense and go straight to one of these:

I was reading that thread on the civic forums that someone linked earlier.

https://www.civicx.com/threads/86-pr...-please.22004/

Funny how some folks state they can just slap on some wider tires and beat the 86 in the corners, which I find hard to believe. However I haven't driven the civic si. Also the folks state that its WAY faster than the 86, I dunno about that. From what I can find it is at best the same speed in a straight line.

In any case if I ever get a civic rest assured it will be the wifes main car, and I may use it for hauling kids or groceries.

There are so many things to focus on when you're driving on a track, I don't have any mental horsepower left over to pay ANY attention to how loud the car is or worry about the suspension beyond trying to figure out how fast it can take me through turns. If the car needs to be loud to be fast for some engineering reason, great. Otherwise, who cares?! If you're so bored on the track that you need extra stuff to feel "on edge" then I think you have the wrong hobby.

The cars put up similar numbers when racing from a stop, i.e., 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times.

If you're already moving, then in most scenarios I think the Civic's torque must give it a huge advantage though. Example: just driving along at 40 MPH in 4th and you decide you want to pass somebody. Mash the pedal in the 86, not that much happens. Mash the pedal in the Civic and you're going to get 192 ft lbs...

See that is just it. Mist of us telling you this is the wrong car for you are not into pedal mashing. We know how to change gears and actually enjoy it. If it is just too much trouble to downshift you are in the wrong car.

Uhh downshift to 3rd and mash the peddle and you will pass them no problem. It's not rocket science.

Dude, just get the 86 already. You've made your decision despite knowing what pitfalls the car has.

No need to keep arguing.

Just want to throw in here that the Civic si 10 has no vtec. That's like a pizza with no cheese! Civics were fun for the same reason all sporty NA engines are, because you get to rev them out. The k20 was great, the k24 lost some of that, the new 1.5t is an economy motor with a tune.

An S2K only has about 160 or so so in that regard an SI is faster than an S2K
