I messed up, can someone help me identify this part?

I ordered some Bilstein B6 shocks a few months ago along with some other suspension stuff, managed to install the 2 fonts and one of the rears before I had to head home to England for a few weeks. Flew back to Houston the day Harvey touched down and my house flooded, the last shock was in its box on the floor in the garage and it was drenched. I took the shock out and threw the box away. Anyway, went to install it today and, low and behold, I had also thrown away the part in the picture.

I thought this would be a spring perch but a Google search brings up nothing. Does anyone know what the part is or even the part number so that I can finally finish up the suspension install. The car hasn't moved for like 2 months, it would be great to drive it again!

Looks like a spring perch to me. You'd have to call Bilstein directly to get a replacement I'd wager, I don't think there's a part number you can just press order for. Maybe tire rack as they sell the dampers individually? I'd be dumpster diving...

Edit: rereading your post, that's the spring perch for your last damper, you didn't throw it away it's right there. The other one is on the car.

Derp.

I pulled it from the installed shock because I messed up and hadn't installed the bump stop, the car hasn't been driven since the install and the spring has a rubber tube on it so it looks new. I actually bought the shocks from Tire Rack so I'll give them a call, ermmm, e-mail...

How much did you pay for those struts? I've just found that one of my rears is leaking, from what I've seen, any aftermarket struts seem to cost about as much as a set of coilovers.

PS. Where in England are you from? I live in near Cypress, originally from Leeds but grew up in Humberside.

$708 shipped for all 4 corners, $209 Ea. for the fronts and $145 Ea. for the rears.

Make sure you don't install the rear spring perches upside down.

Might have to call Bilstein for them. Explain what happened and they may just ship one for free/cheap.

Well, I'd need to get it before installing it upside down . The struts are being paired with RCE yellow springs so that should make you happy!

Nah, they just gave me a part number of E4-FT2-Y026A01 which the local distributor couldn't locate. Guess I'll have to call back and spend another 30 minutes on hold as I probably wrote it down wrong. That's what I get for being a dumb arse!!

Just saying because I think they're upside down in the FT-86 photo posted earlier.

Really? So if they were installed in the exact orientation as my first photo would that be upside down? If so, I know what I'm doing this weekend...

Yup, they're supposed to mate up nicely with the stock spring which would require a non-flat surface on the damper, there's a 'step' in the part where the end of the spring fits in. Don't forget the bumpstop either, should look like this picture:

And this

And sorry I posted a misleading photo, a few people have flipped the spring perches and put on lowering springs at the same time and complained about sitting too high off the ground, maybe because of this exact picture...

There's a step in my picture too, it's just the other way round. LOL, I'm starting to think I did put it in upside down as it does seem to be a little higher but I just put that down to maybe being in the wrong hole on the SPL LCAs. And, yeah, I couldn't figure out how to make the bumpstop fit like it did on the stock shock so I just left it off first time round. I really should have just paid someone to do this for me .

Thanks for the help.

Live and learn and do it right the next time, the first mistakes are investments towards future success

The bumpstop thing is not clearly stated in instructions and there is miscommunication about it online based on misinterpretation (Bilstein claims 'internal bumpstops' on their struts, which is true (and isn't super complicated if you want to know more, but it sounds fancier than it is), but the rear damper is not a 'strut' on the 86 and needs the bumpstop in the same configuration as OEM)

The spring perch is more of a 'common sense' thing, but it looks like they've updated their documentation with much better pictures, see page 4 of this PDF which you can get off Bilstein's website here
