Tick noise on rear wheel only on hot car
Hi,
I have a weird click noise coming from the rear passenger wheel. It happens only under 15/20mph in gear or not, accelerating or coasting or even if the engine is off and the car is pushed in neutral. It's a metallic noise and the frequency changes with the wheel speed. The weird part is that happens only if the car is "hot", so after like 20 minutes of spirited driving when the diff./wheel hubs/brakes are hot. If i drive for 2 hours normally everything works fine (no noise). I've replaced the axle nuts and the problem persists. I've raised the car and everything seems torqued and I can't see leaks or anything strange. Checked the wheel and nuts/studs and no problems with those either. A week before the problem, something strange happened. I was looking for a parking spot (driving slow in 2nd gear) and I've heard a big clunking noise (like something snapped). It was really loud and i "felt it" in the clutch pedal. I don't know if is correlated or not. At the moment i thought that i've hit something, checked for damage ecc. ecc. and found nothing. The car however worked and works fine. What do you think? I have stock rear brakes, never used the e brake in movement (for driting or things like that). Tein coilovers with cusco LCA, lowered 1.5/2 inches max. 2016 with 30000 miles. and like 10 trackdays (4/5 full days a year) The engine is supercharged and i run like 250 at the wheels. |

Does noise changes in right vs left turns vs going straight? Then i'd check bearings.
Other guess is dragging something from brakes. Check temps after driving a while between wheels, if that noisy wheel isn't noticeably hotter then other sidie one. Most probably both will be hot, as you mentioned "spirited driving", thus probably also braked a lot, but if much hotter then other side. |

Dust shield on that wheel's brakes warping when hot and touching something?

Thanks for the input!
If I rember correctly the noise doesn't change when turning. The temperature I don't know, i need a thermometer, both wheel are hot. Dust shield may be.. the issue stared a couple of days after a track day. I will test this evening or tomorrow and let you know. |
