A little fine tuning and what do we have
143wkw 213nm from 116wkw @African how does 24% gain sound to you I will produce my doctorate degree if you require. Unbelievable gains from remote tuning from the US. well done @DeliciousTuning, imagine we had you here on a dyno. |

That's a nice smooth graph. It's not about how much power. It's how you MAKE the power. Very nice indeed.

I'm not saying it didn't produce a couple more wkw, but let me just put this here - ambient was 24 degrees on the first run, 16 degrees on this one. That's not immaterial. |

Our objective has been to get rid of the mid torque dip and increase the power, without having to go F1. |

^ And that most definitely has been achieved! I'm going to go back into the shadows now, in case I get shouted at for thread jacking again

Marcel took the 86 to Tarlton a week or so ago. Asked him to do runs with TC on, off completely and sport. Best times came in with Sport mode on and drop clutch around 5500rpm. Best time was 15.08 with an average launch. He needs more time in seat.
Carefully looking at the setup ..... wheels spin in 1st, 2nd and even 3rd. OK, still on std 215 rubber and those Michellins are harder compound than I like. Plan is to go to 235 in future and let him loose again. Will also run with Octane booster a tank earlier next time around. Altitude was Jhb and temp around 21C Note - Just asked him and yes, he did drive through the water to get to the start |

African, did you see the other thread?
2 cars on the same dyno, same night, right after each other. One with a custom tune and one without. Nice gains...

Saw it and it's looking good. I agree about making smooth power is paramount. I never said mapping doesn't work .... I just mentioned that dyno graphs are not gospel Engineering is not the same as spoeg en plak. On RGM and others ..... long after the massive power and cheap price is forgotten, you will still be stuck with lack of support and reliability issues. Maybe but if you're spending RGM kinda money you'd also expect RGM kinda gains, no?

Sav, to some extent. I want the maximum power .... but I have learnt that maximum reliable power is more fun. I want this fun to last 100 000km. Not blow up after 20 000km. RGM can surely make much more power out of the engine but then you run into all kindsa problems ...... RGM SC, right now is marginal on std brakes. More power and you need more brakes ...at least higher spec fluids and uprated pads. Add more power and soon clutch needs to be upgrade ....... that is the start of a domino effect because rest of drive line will follow soon. Now you need better cooling ...so radiator needs a new and bigger one ..... I have been there. I had a Land Rover Defender 90 built by RGM (SC) that pushed 278kW. Conversion was about 60k at that stages .....by the time driveline, clutch, radiator and brakes were good for this 90...I was in for well over 150k. Only fools and rich men don't listen to Steve at RGM. When you are jonk en jeukerig you worry about how much kW you see on a dyno. You are in the idiot phase of life. When get past the idiot phase in one piece, you will focus on the skill level. And that my friend, is where men and boys are separated. Speed in a straight line ..... fast car. Speed on a tight track is a fast driver. Second one is not bought with money and the one more difficult to achieve. |

I agree, but I'm long over that phase. What I'm saying is that for me personally the gains just doesn't justify the cost. If it was R20k then hell yes.
We've seen Sprintex and Vortech on the same dyno - chalk & cheese but then we also know that RGM is way ahead in terms of technical support and warranty so that's not an option either. I've given up on the idea of modding my 86 and I'm enjoying it for what it is, I've got the turbo Scoob for modding and POWER now so all juvenile needs are being satisfied.

Not sure who else, but the Fokster has really made me enjoy the 86 a lot more. I'm not expecting the 86 to be able to do everything anymore and am enjoying it for what it was meant to do. The XT is just a ton of torque and a lot of giggles. Got some bigger plans for it though...too much power is never enough.
