Spare for me. This car will be a DD for the vast majority of owners. Dare I say over 90% as a guess. Those that want to track can easily take the spare out for race day.

Just curious, what does AAA do if you get a flat and don't have a spare?

GM, and Ford both have high efficiency versions of their compact cars which drop the spare. They also pick up some aerodynamics enhancements too, so it is hard to say what exactly gets them a few mpg.

I believe some Porsches have a tire kit and some "goo", but will that suffice for the weight savings?
next question!

IIRC, GM now always drops the spare. They charge you like $200 to put it back in.

I'd prefer a full size spare.

i dont really have a choice, it is the law in AUS that a car must come with a spare tire.. there are SOME exceptions, where it is physically impossible and impractical to fit a tire, but MOST cars have to have it

Why a full size spare? Its going to be a pretty small car, I'd want a compact spare. They work perfectly fine for short distances and leave much more room for the trunk / rear suspension / gas tank than a full-width spare.

Yeah we have space savers here. But there must be a spare in/on/under/behind the car somewhere

Remember if you put a spare tire on the car, you have to put the flat tire somewhere in the trunk. In some small cars, that's just not possible. May be why the NC Miata chose to skip the spare as the stock rim/tire would only fit in the passenger seat after you changed it anyways.

I got a flat with my NA, pulled over to change it only to discover no lighting on the road, a soft shoulder (dirt/gravel) that I could not even get my jack to lift much less be stable, and I didn't exactly feel safe changing it there.

The next day I took my spare and jack out from the trunk and bought a bottle of goo. I dont care if the tire shops don't like em - it's not my desire to make their lives easier while making mine tougher. FWIW, I also have AAA.

Last time I got a flat that goo wouldn't fix (shredded tire), I managed to shred TWO tire on the passenger side. Car was not equipped with two spares, so I was SOL.
