Thanks for the continuing support, dudes and dudettes!
We've been a little short on the pics, but we've been hard at work. @LeeMaster swung by this morning for some 3D scanning. We've found that these cars tend to have some decent variation in chassis geometry from car to car and we want to make sure that our bar leaves just enough clearance for all cars, but not so much that it's fit is sloppy. Here's a few pictures that I snapped; I'm sure Chase will chime in with some details and his findings. Matt Engineering Last edited by GrimmSpeed; 05-07-2013 at 01:33 PM. |

There's some fairly wide tolerances on this car. Ask me how I know!

hard to tell for sure, is that bar clearing the AC lines without rubbing? oh...and WTF is that giant contraption the guy is using at the strut tops?

That giant contraption is our Faro arm. Using that and a software package I am able to great an accurate digital model of whatever I want. In this instance I was using it to map out the studs and their mounting location to compare it to our vehicle. I'll scan a few more cars to get an idea of the variance from car to car, which will let me fine tune the design so it fits EVERYONE'S car perfectly. Chase Engineering |

Neat! I want one...haha
Thanks for the clarification. I'm sure some spiral loom over the AC lines would be sufficient to protect it. I bet I even have some in a bin somewhere.

I had a great time at the GrimmSpeed shop today and checking out what they do. These guys are a bunch of cool and awesome people and are very knowledgeable in what they do, as we all know. I am not an expert on this subject, but I am no stranger when it comes to testing any real product. After talking to them personally today, I cannot wait for the final product to be released.

I was at the Offshore Technology Conference, and FARO had a booth. I mentioned that some crazy car guys were using their products to develop high-end aftermarket automotive components. They thought that was pretty cool.
Most of their products are for high-$$$ quality assurance and reverse engineering. The kind of setup where you bolt it to a few tons of granite and charge by the minute. Nothing to add here. Keep up the good work!
