Subaru's new 2.0 Turbo

has anyone else seen the specs for the new 2014 Forester? it's got a 2.0 boxer with a turbo, pumping out 250 HP / 258 LB-FT. how likely do you guys think that this'll be going into the FR-S/BRZ? With specs like that, the twins would become quite fast for sure.

In that same article you read, it says it won't be used for the BRZ. There are many threads on this one.

well i didn't necessarily mean they'd have a turbo, just some sort of power increase. i plan on buying one this summer regardless of a turbo or not, i just think it'd be interesting to see if they offer it.

I read that Subaru has an agreement with Toyota not to add a turbo until 2015. My guess is the 2015 model will have it as part of an option package. Depending on how it's calibrated, could be wheel spin city on the twins.

The TRD supercharger should be made available in March, since they Pirelli World Challenge FR-S will be competing and by the PWC rules they have to have it available to the consumer at the start of the season. Obviously, it will fit the BRZ as well.

A stock turbo motor would do better, be more reliable, and have more potential than the TRD supercharger.

Agreed. Just pointing out the most immediately available FI option.

Read it a few days ago, not sure which online car mag but it was a major one, maybe from UK. Makes sense to me.

It also commented that this agreement exists despite development of the TRD supercharger.

I see the supercharger as a tool for wheel spin freaks and turbo for maximum numbers freaks.

Despite what is "better" for the car, I really don't think Subaru is going to put a turbo on the BRZ. They have openly stated that turbo is the WRX's signature feature, implying that buyers can purchase that if they want numbers; it doesn't belong on the BRZ.

That's too bad then, I'd be nice if they put out a turbo for the BRZ to spice things up a little.
