I'm not a vert fan at all, but I do feel like there are a lot of people out there that would buy a vert twin over a miata.

Not really, 2nd gear hard wood is common in a lot of manual cars. But has there been any true transmission failures yet? Only time will well.

I do not hope for a long lifespan. This car is going to work best on a short sweet run. At 25k, if production continues into a second generation or multiple models they will be a dime a dozen. Perhaps a successor but I hope that would be it.

Why do you not want these to be a dime a dozen? The more fun affordable sports cars the better in my opinion, it means other auto makers will chime in to try and take the market and the more options we'll have to chose from. Not to mention aftermarket support to keep these cars ticking for decades to come instead of having to come up with bubblegum and paperclip solutions to issues down the road because the OEM abandoned the platform early.

There is a very specific reason that the FR-S Convertible as well as other hardware-intensive, beyond-accessories, modified versions from being approved for production. For one, there is a big reason of this... Subaru is making XV and Forester on the same production line at the same plant, and the two cars have just debuted and is a a huge demand as one of the most successful Subaru cars in this decade. So there isn't a huge capacity to make more FR-S/86/BRZ that's already on backorder for almost every nation and region outside the USA.
There are other reasons but this is one of the biggest delays as of now. And no, the project has not been canned or shelved, but is pretty much alive, and Toyota is simply looking for a solution and some time, so that more drastic methods don't have to be taken to make it significantly more expensive or complicated. Remember, that the President of Toyota Motor Company, is very fond of this car and that things will not go down without a big enough reason, and this is not a big enough reason.
