When I talk w Tada-san, he said there were several reasons. Major one is the weight. DCT is great fast shifting AT trans... but that comes w the weight he didn't want. He also said front and rear weight ratio was important factor comparing DCT vs AT. Yes, trans sit almost to the center, but it's still front part of the car. Having inline 6 is already heavy pushing the weight more towards the front wasn't ideal (this is the clear seen the front and rear weight ratio in i6 vs i4 Supra).

Of course, there are other reasoning... but too long and complicated to write all of em. Plus, it was back in April when I talk about those kind of things, so I don't fully remember all other reasons. lol

Makes sense.

I "built" a 2020 M240i (same B58 engine) online (reasonably equipped) similarly to the Supra Premium and the MSRP was only $2k less. Both far less expensive than the (S55) 7-speed DCT M2C.

https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...f-eight-speed/

"That’s also the opinion of Andy Palmer, CEO of Aston Martin, who claims ZF’s 8HP is lighter, cheaper, and quicker than a dual-clutch transmission."

The shift times are negligible for anyone not in a F1 car. The extra gear and less weight might be nice for fuel economy.

The manual transmission should trade places with the auto and become a premium option. Porsche is pretty much doing it. Lots of their extra special 911s (911R, Sport Classic etc) only come with a manual and people are snapping them up. I think it's becoming clear that in order to survive, the manual has to pull its own weight and become a premium option. That'll take care of all the cost concerns.

I've discussed about this idea to Tada-san month back. Give MT option... even limited amount. Even MT only came in highest model of Supra (Premium model) and bring AT to both base and Premium, there will be enough demands for it. Hell, I might even buy one, if they did that. He was looking into that option, when I talk w him.

...but there's also someone interivew Tada-san claiming that, there's no MT on the market that good/reliable enough. BUT I didn't hear that from Tada-san, so take that as a grain of salt.

Lol That is a slap in the face to BMW and the M division if I have ever heard one.

Again, this was some article or post in our sister site, SupraMKV. I, myself haven't heard Tada-san stating those things. This is why, I've stated "take it as a grain of salt".

Yea I get it, and I suppose it is more of a slap to ZF or Getrag or whoever makes their transmissions, but just saying, there should be a decent manual out there for them, or are the manuals in the M2/M3/M4 crap?

I know I'd highly consider getting a yellow one if it were a M/T. I honestly don't care if it's slower than the auto. If it sounds the same, and everything else is the same, then I'm game.
